Yesterday I returned to ballet after a week of no class due to my illness. I was worried that my technique would have regressed and that I'd dance poorly, but to the contrary, I was fine and actually had a good turning night (clean doubles and triples en pointe). Since I did yoga on Tues, I didn't feel at all stiff in my hips like I do sometimes. I have to work extra hard on my turnout since I'm not blessed with it naturally.
The other ladies expressed their worries and were glad that I was back. I was, too - I really missed class and hated having to stay home since I was sick, but I knew that if I pushed myself too hard I would not only prolong the illness, but put the other dancers/instructors at risk of contracting it. My trainer mentioned to me that's it's good to take a break once in a while, so maybe it was a good thing after all.
Tonight I'll work out with my trainer, post-illness.
