Intergalactic Food Fest

Had a great time yesterday with my sci-fi group at our Intergalactic Food Fest!

Everyone made a dish from their culture/background and then our host made a beautiful cake with all the different flags and a big Star Trek symbol on top.

It was a lot of fun getting to try all the different dishes. I made a noodle Kugel from my grandmother's recipe. She died 3 years ago and I have never made it before. It is basically like a noodle pudding but denser than pudding. It is popular with the Jewish people of Eastern Europe. Has angel hair noodles, eggs, cheese, sugar and vanilla in it and there are graham cracker crumbs sprinkled on top. Came out very delicious!

Jeremy made Irish Soda Bread from his native Ireland. It was also very yummy and I especially liked the raisins he added. Steve is also from Ireland so he brought twice-baked potatoes. Loretta is Asian so she brought dumplings. Yum! Love those! Ariel is Puerto Rican and made empanadas. I tried the ground beef one and really liked it. Mary Ann is also Puerto Rican and brought some kind of "meat pocket" that had been wrapped in leaves but you are not supposed to eat that part. Good as well. Terry is German so made pork and saurkaut. While I don't like the latter, the pork was yummy. My mom finished it off with a Jewish apple cake.

In other news, we got a real dining room table! It is huge but fills the big room nicely. The chairs have nicely carved backs with black leather seats. We got 2 extra chairs so we could fit 8 people at the table. Never bought a "real" piece of furniture like this. Most of my stuff is garage sales and hand-me-downs or cheap Ikea. I love it!

Now back to the grind of work...
