Last Saturday, me and my parents were invited to Stockholm for the VIP premiere of Snow White - the musical. (Stuff that happens when you're friends with theater and show biz producers.) So we went, even though I'm not much of a fan of musicals. I've always found it a little cringe-worthy with the suddenly bursting into song bit... and on top of that, this is a family production. Meaning, lots of kids. But. It's for my friends, and this time, for this particular production of the musical, they have Yohio playing the part of the prince.
A few years ago, Yohio was mostly not-known for his "weird" Visual Kei attempts in Japan, which made him a bit of an exotic guest on TV... and he was also guitarist in a band at the time. The last few years though, he's been wildly successful in Sweden, and has reached a huge audience with stuff like the Swedish tryouts for the Eurovision Song Contest, for example. So. I thought it would be interesting to see how he's doing on stage, in this kind of thing. :)
And he was definitely not disappointing. He has stage presence, experience, and a very good voice. So, he's good. :) The evil queen was quite good too, and she could carry the role (even though I think my friend A did it better in the other productions, but... I may be biased. LOL). There were a few little things that I know will be smoothed out, and probably have already been, like a little wardrobe thing, and one of the child actors being a little confused and not being quite in sync. Of course, when we talked to R afterwards, the director, he mentioned a bunch of other things, that mostly only he could see. ;) The whole thing was awesome, funny, and quite sparkly and glamorous in parts. And I got some glittery things and a few pamphlets with me home. LOL
We got to rub shoulders with a lot of celebrities and critics and all their kids. The evil queen's mum and husband sat right behind me, for example. I sort of recognised the people sitting next to me, but I can't place their faces, so I guess I'll have to buy the gossip magazines with the pictures from the event so see who it was. ;) We had brought another friend with us, and she was absolutely star struck and giddy! LOL It was really cute.
One thing that has been really nice about this all too, has been to hear A and R talk about rehearsals and the work that goes into making a production like this. We get to hear a lot about their problems with actors and technicians and general stuff... Some actors that should be super professional and grown up, behave like absolute children behind the scenes, and it's sometimes disappointing. All that we've heard about Yohio though is good stuff. Always on time, learns his lines quickly, no arguments, super polite, encouraging, humble... It's been a breath of fresh air for my friends to work with him. :)

This week I've been taking care of friends' cats while they've been away on vacation, but I very quickly had to ask
one_short_fuse for help, because...
On Monday when I got home, I bent down to pick up the mail from the floor, and got a horrible twinge-stab of excruciating pain in a back muscle. It left me gasping, and I have a very high pain threshold. (Said the person who refused to see a doctor for six weeks while having a dislocated wrist, so yes, I tolerate a lot of pain.) *shudder* It eventually went away, and I went about my day as usual, even though I felt a little out of sorts. Whatever.
Next morning, I sat up in bed, and the world tilted and whirled and I almost blacked out, falling back onto the bed. Twice. I managed to get out of bed finally, veeeeeery slowly. And felt dizzy and weird... like my brain was floating. And once in a while I'd get that world-tilting and dizziness back. So, I didn't exactly think myself fit for walking over to friends' place, so I asked
one_short_fuse if she could drive me there.
I thought it was maybe my neck... because that is always fucked up and super tight, but nothing seemed to help. And Wednesday morning was pretty much the same, with me blacking out, super-dizzy and feeling superdrunk, without the buzz, when I tried to get up from horizontal. Thursday was much the same... but I had a chiropractor appointment! Things were fixed, especially in the neck area... and it got a little better I thought. Not gone, but I could get up without blacking out, I was just super-dizzy.
But, Friday night was not fun. I woke up at 2.30am, and every little move I made while still lying down, triggered the same phenomenon... but I was wide awake and I really needed to use the bathroom, so I managed to get up, and stayed up until 6.30, when I was finally tired again, and could sleep a bit more. Getting up later in the morning was as interesting as before, but I experimented a bit and found that if I turned over and slowly crawled up on all fours first and sat up that way, I didn't exactly black out! Victory! lol I also felt a soreness in my back... remember that muscle stab of intense pain? Yeah, now I remembered it too.
Friday afternoon, I had another chiro appointment, told him about that stuff, and... we found the culprit! two vertebrae in the middle of my back had done a little sing and dance number away from their desired position, and so caused the whole thing! It was in a place people usually don't get this kind of stuff, because it's usually either lower or higher, but of course I have to special like that. *sigh*
Anyway, with some snap, crackle, and pop he put things where they're supposed to be, and I was only a tiny bit dizzy when I got up! This morning, I could get out of bed with no problem! And the whole feeling out of sorts is gone as well! Damn those vertebrae and their silly behaviour! So glad anyway that it was just that... Brain weasels when you lie awake at night soon started whispering that it might be a brain tumor and things like that, which really stressed me out. But, it was just my lovely little back playing tricks! :)
That was an adventure I would have been perfectly happy without. ;)
We take for granted the ability to get up in the morning; this reminded me that even that is not simple... and something to be grateful for!
