I've been coming across a few of these iPod Shuffle memes and decided it was time to take a stab at it. ^^ I don't actually have an iPod, so my generic music player will have to do. So, music player is set on shuffle, the list is up, and GO:

1. What is your motto? Just My Imagination - The Cranberries
Heh, this actually works pretty well for me: "We were living for the love we had, living not for reality"

2. What do you think of very often? Don’t Look Back in Anger - Oasis
This works, too: “Slip inside the eye of your mind; don’t you know you might find a better place to play?”

3. How would you describe yourself? Read My Mind - The Killers
*snort* Yeah, that song title pretty much sums up the only way someone’s going to get my description of me.

4. What is your life’s purpose? Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows-----The Scientist - Coldplay
So this one I ended up getting a second opinion on from my music player by marking it after I got the first one and going over all the marked ones again once the first set were done. While the song 'Accidentally in Love' does sort of apply to my life, I really hope that wasn't the sole purpose of it. The second time around I got 'The Scientist', which fits better, both in title and in some of the lyrics:

"I was just guessing at numbers and figures, pulling your puzzles apart. Questions of science, science and progress, did not speak as loud as my heart. Nobody said it was easy. It's such a shame for us to part. Nobody said it was easy; no one ever said it would be this hard."

5. How do you feel today? All Star - Smash Mouth--------------Tranquilize - The Killers ft. Lou Reed
Another repeat, since 'All Star' didn't really fit today, though it does actually fit my general mood on most days, so it's not a terrible match. 'Tranquilize'... yeah, that's today. Distant, anxious and a little creepy:

"I got this feeling that they're gonna break down the door; I got this feeling that they're gonna come back for more. See I was thinking that I lost my mind, but it's been getting to me all this time, and it don't stop dragging me down. Silently reflection turns my world to stone. Patiently correction leaves us all alone. And sometimes I'm a travel man, but tonight this engine's failing."

6. What do your friends think of you? One/Let It Be - Boyce Avenue-----I’m On My Way - The Proclaimers
I really have no idea what my friends think of me, so the music player’s guess is as good as mine. XD

7. What do you think of your best friend? Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
This one’s all too fitting, considering that of my two best friends one of them is dead and the other is gone. “Every now and then I feel a little bit lonely and you’re never coming ‘round.”

8. What do you think about the person you like? Who’s Your Baby Now - Mark Knopfler----As Lovers Go - Dashboard Confessional
While the first is pretty close, since the person I like is with someone else, the mood of the song is wrong since I do still think very fondly of him, wish him well and am happy that he has someone he loves. ‘As Lovers Go’ fits when we were first getting to know each other in some ways.

9. What do your parents think of you? When You Were Young - The Killers
Quite fitting, considering they seem to still think I’m ten.

10. What is 2+2? Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis--------Losing My Religion - REM
Really no clue about this one. o.O What kind of question is that, anyway?

11. What is your life story? We Belong - Pat Benatar------The Scientist - Coldplay
First one suits quite well, as does the second. Once again, ‘The Scientist’ turns up in a life-related question; if it’s both my life’s purpose and my life story, does this mean that I’ve fulfilled my life’s purpose? Once again: “Nobody said it was easy; no one ever said it would be so hard”.

12. What do you want? I Want You to Want Me - Cheap Trick
This one’s so perfect it’s scary. XD Sure, being wanted, needed and loved would be great.

13. What will you dance to at your wedding? Rebellion (Lies) - Arcade Fire ----Wake Up - Arcade Fire
My music player either really objects to weddings or really thinks Arcade Fire makes great wedding songs. o.O Rebellion, lies and ‘wake up’ - not great wedding themes there.

14. What will they play at your funeral? Tender - Blur------Charmless Man - Blur-----I’m Going Home - RHP Show
Why couldn’t I get ‘Tender’ at the wedding? At least that’s a romantic song. And ‘Charmless Man’?! WTH, music player. At least ‘I’m Going Home’ is a sweet sad song that would be fitting to a funeral, even if it is sung by an alien transvestite in makeup, fishnets and full-body glitter.

15. What is your hobby/interest? Little Drop of Poison - Tom Waits-----Fix You - Coldplay
Let me reassure everyone that I don’t poison people for fun and profit. It doesn’t really fit anything that I can think of, but ‘Fix You’ does, since I practically make a hobby out of helping people and trying to fix everything in their lives.

16. What is your biggest secret? She’s Got All the Friends - Chumbawamba
This fits, since it’s a very cynical song and I’m secretly a very cynical sarcastic person at times. “Versace and Prada, they mean nothing to me, to me. Well, you can buy your friends, but I’ll hate you for free, hate you for free! ^^”

17. What do you think of your friends? Spaceman - The Killers-----Sometimes You Can’t Make It - U2
Does this mean my friends are all in my mind? That does actually fit. As for the second song, well, it’s about someone who thinks they don’t need friends to get through but sometimes can’t make it on their own and doesn’t have to go it alone, so that works.

18. What’s the worst that could happen? People Ain’t No Good - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
People turning out to be deceitful liars who are bad in their hearts while everything good falls to ruin? Yes, that’s pretty bad. “To our love, send a dozen white lilies. To our love, send a coffin of wood…. To our love, a valentine in blood. To our love, let all the jilted lovers cry that people, they just ain’t no good.” Man, that’s a depressing song.

19. How will you die? All These Things That I’ve Done - The Killers---Angel of Harlem - U2
So I’ll die after all these things that I’ve done and be carried off by an angel of Harlem? Doesn’t sound half bad! ^^

20. What do you regret? I Don’t Feel Like Dancing - Scissor Sisters
Taking this in a more metaphorical sense, this could be all the missed opportunities in life and the things I never did because I didn’t feel like it at the time.

21. What makes you laugh? What It Is - Mark Knopfler----Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Completely missed the mark on this one, music player - ‘What It Is’ is a song of resignation to the world being a dark and dirty place that will never change, and ‘Maps’ is someone trying to convince the person they love to stay instead of leaving them, neither of which is at all humourous.

22. What makes you cry? 99 Luftballons - Nena-----She’s In Love - The Little Mermaid (Broadway)
Well, the message in ’99 Luftballons’ is something I do find upsetting - the willingness of countries to go to war with each other and start tossing bombs around over nothing - but seriously, music player. The Little Mermaid? A cute funny Broadway song about Ariel’s sisters’ opinions on their besotted little sister’s behaviour; it’s not sad at all. Not getting a great batting average here, music player.

23. Will you ever get married? Yellow - Coldplay-------Lollipop - Mika
Seems a little undecided here - ‘Yellow’ is a very romantic song when looked at the right way, but it says nothing about marriage or long-term commitment. As for ‘Lollipop’, that says “If she loves you, let her go, ‘cause love’s gonna get you down”, so nothing long-term there either.

24. What scares you the most? Who Let the Dogs Out? - Baha Men
Quite literally; one of my biggest fears is my dogs getting out and being lost, injured, stolen or killed.

25. Does anyone like you? Somebody Told Me - The Killers-----One (Berlin version) - U2
Uh, is that a no? Although apparently “I got potential”, which is good.

26. If you could go back in time, what would you change? Mr. Brightside - The Killers-----The Universal - Blur
‘Mr. Brightside’ is about betrayal, so maybe righting a wrong in the past? As for ‘The Universal’, since it has the line ‘Yes, the future’s been sold’, I might just go back to make a little profit with my futurely knowledge. XD Red Rum to win the National, anyone?

27. If someone says “Is this okay?” you say: Everybody Hurts - REM------Grace Kelly - Mika
Well, I think both of these work for me in different ways. ‘Everybody Hurts’ is about accepting the hard things in life, and ‘Grace Kelly’ is about being flexible but true to yourself - “I can be brown, I can be blue, I can be violet sky, I can be out there, can be back there, can be anything that you like” - and is also sort of rejecting the whole concept of ‘Is this okay?’ since it’s mocking how people are pressured to conform.

28. What do you like in a guy/girl? Losing Touch - The Killers------My Body is a Cage - Arcade Fire
Considering that I don’t get romantically involved with people, these actually fit well. I’m always afraid of betrayal, which ‘Losing Touch’ is all about, and I’m too inhibited to make a move even if I do like someone, hence “My body is a cage that keeps me from dancing with the one I love” and “I’m standing on a stage of fear and self-doubt”.

29. If someone says “I got here first” you say: Best Years of Our Lives - Baha Men-----I’m The Fool - Mark Knopfler
The first one doesn’t fit in any way, really, but the title of the second is basically how I’d respond. XD I am a doormat.

30. What do you do to relax? Underneath Your Clothes - Shakira-----To Love Somebody - The Bee Gees
Ooookay, then. Moving on.

31. What do you value most? Tidal Wave - The Killers-----Spirit in the Sky - Gareth Gates ft. The Kumars
‘Tidal Wave’ is mostly about how we can’t know how our lives are going to go, thinking of the future because we can’t go back into the past and looking at what we have in our lives, all of which are ideas I value. As for ‘Spirit’, especially the Kumars version, that song is all about gently poking fun at religion, which is an activity I always enjoy. XD

32. When your friend is sad, you tell them: Happy Ending - Mika-----Stuck in a Moment - U2
Hmm, ‘Happy Ending’ is more what the friend might be telling me, but ‘Stuck in a Moment’ is pretty spot-on since it was actually written to Bono’s depressed friend telling him “You’ve got to get yourself together”, “I’m still enchanted by the light you brought to me” and “You are such a fool to worry like you do, oh. You gotta stand up straight, carry your own weight; these tears are going nowhere, baby”, which is pretty much what I’d tell the friend, though probably I wouldn’t put it so bluntly.

33. What’s your idea of a romantic evening/weekend? The World We Live In - The Killers-----Smile Like You Mean It - The Killers
Once again, the music player points out that romance and me don’t mix. I don’t really get the point of romantic getaways and such, finding the regular old world we live in to be good enough, and if I went on such a getaway I probably wouldn’t enjoy it but would feel compelled to pretend I did, thus ‘smiling like I mean it’.

34. What do you do to cheer up? I Can’t Decide - Scissor Sisters-----Song For Ten - Neil Hannon
Okay, I admit when someone’s really ticked me off I do sometimes cheer myself up by thinking of all the creative ways they could die horribly. Not seriously at all, but just as a way to blow off steam without actually blowing up at them. “I’m not a gangster tonight; don’t want to be a bad guy. I’m just a loner, baby, and now you’ve gotten in my way. I can’t decide whether you should live or die!”. As for ‘Song For Ten’, that’s just such a sweet song about enjoying life and getting over loss - “So have a good life; do it for me. Make me so proud, like you’d want me to be. Wherever you are, I’m thinking of you, oceans apart” - and to be happy for the sake of others if you can’t be happy for yourself.

35. What are you known for? I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers----Ever Fallen in Love - Pete Yorn
‘500 Miles’ is about loyalty and being devoted to a person through everything, and I am known for that. As for ‘Ever Fallen in Love’, it’s about falling in love with someone who you can’t be with, which I’ve certainly done, though it (hopefully) isn’t widely known.

36. How’s your love life? Who Let the Dogs Out - Baha Men
Bwahahah! XD Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

37. How do you do in school? Bad Reputation - Joan Jett---Daylight - Matt & Kim
While I was always really good in school, I suppose I did actually have a bit of a bad reputation for some of it, and I didn’t care in the slightest. I really can’t see any connection between ‘Daylight’ and school though, unless it’s just how much time I spent daydreaming in school.

38. When times are rough, you say: Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel------Dustland Fairytale - The Killers
Yeah, I could see both of those in some ways. “Now, Cinderella, don’t you go to sleep; it’s such a bitter form of refuge. Oh, don’t you know the kingdom’s under siege, and everybody needs you.”

39. How do you stay motivated? I Am a Rock - Simon & Garfunkel-----Whole Wide World - The Proclaimers
‘I Am a Rock’ is almost more of a demotivational song, since it’s about being alone and isolated and telling yourself that’s fine - “I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain. It’s laughter and it’s loving I disdain” - but ‘Whole Wide World’ is about someone being willing to cross the whole world in search of that one special person and keeping the goal in mind - “Well is she lying on a tropical beach somewhere, underneath the tropical sun, pining away in a heatwave there, hoping that I won’t be long?”, so that’s got a good motivational message in it.

40. What’s the best thing that could happen? You’re So True - Joseph Arthur
Awww, that’s sweet. A song about being completely accepted and loved for who you are - “I’m strange and you’re strange; don’t want you to change, no way” - and kept to faithfully. That would definitely be a great thing.
