A Study in Paper #5: Sherlock & John

Nov 28, 2010 15:32

I actually did this one a while back, completely misplaced it (the boys were hastily stashed away when I had company over), and now have found it again.

Thank you very much! They lend themselves very well to silhouettes, these two.

I like I very much like!

Although John's right hand reads a little strange, as it's a larger negative space than any other cuts on his shape.

Thank you!

As for the negative space, I agree, good eye. In fact that was the bit I waffled most on when designing this. Were I go do it again today, now that I have another month's worth of cutting practice under my belt, I know just how I'd improve it. Well, that'll be for some future project...

The important thing, you can tell who they are at a glance! I wonder if these would work as cards? You should send them to the actors.

Cards is such a cool idea. It wouldn't work as-is, the paper's too flimsy, but done with cardstock (which I use for my recent paper cuttings/models) with some extra bits to make it stable...I actually have another similar cutting planned that will hopefully stand up by itself so we'll see if that works out!

That... is frickin' cool.

Oddly enough, despite the fact that it's kind of deceptively simple, I think this is my favourite of all the ones you've done so far. Has a very bold, clean finish. I like it a lot.

Well thank you. My cuttings were getting progressively more detailed and for this one I deliberately went the other direction, just to see what could be done with it. I'm glad you like it!
