this is not the review i promised you a few posts back, which would have been of kingdoms of dust by amanda downum. which was the third in a trilogy and a perfectly fine book, though i think it would be a terrible starting point in the series (i read the second book first, which worked okay--this book seemed to refer back to the other two every ( Read more... )

I liked her Blood... books with the ex-cop PI and the vampire romance novelist. She ran into a werewolf pack (family, friendly) in one or two of them.

the third book isn't dreadful, but i liked it less than the second one, so i think you'll be happy with your decision. the second one was on the tiptree short list, which is why i picked it up and how i wound up reading it first. i wonder how i would have felt if i had read it after the drowning city. anyway, i'm glad i got these books out of the library.

"kingdoms of dust" sounded familiar, so I looked it up, and yep, I read it ... on its own ... w' out reading the previous. It stood up ok on its own, but maybe I was missing a lot I didn't realize.
