Confirmation
CCD is never something that has been forced upon me. I always liked going to CCD and to mass. Although it sometimes made me miss out on thing, and my friends sometimes teased me for being so involved in the church it never bothered me. That’s what Confirmation is about to me, being able to stand up for my religion. I want to be confirmed so that everyone who knows me will know my commitment to my religion and to my faith.
Before I go any further I have to explain a little bit about my family. I come from a very close, small, Italian family. In my entire extended family there are less then twenty of us and I would not have it any other way. I have two older sisters and I always wanted an older brother. My three older male cousins have always been there for me and provided that brotherly feel. One cousin in particular has always been there for me and that is my cousin Anthony. When it came time for Confirmation I knew that I wanted to honor him and show him how important he is to my life. It only seemed right that I choose Antonia as my name for Confirmation.
When Anthony started dating Rachael we bonded immediately. I was seven and I instantly looked up to her. When Anthony and Rachael got married I was thrilled. Rachael has always been there for me no matter what and I know I can always count on her. She is a true inspiration to me in both faith and life. Rachael is now a mother of three whom she has already had baptized. I look up to Rachael and I can not think of a better person to be my sponsor.
Community Service is extremely important. I have done the Walk for Diabetes for 10 years. I have also participated in the Annual food drive, toiletry drive and baby shower held through the church. The food drive is a two week process. On the first week we drop off empty bags, which are to be filled and collected on the second week. After all the bags are collected they are sorted and shipped out to local food pantries. This year in addition to the annual food drive I participated in a Lock-in that raised money for the pantries as well. I am also an active member in my school’s student council, where I participate in many community service projects.
The Confirmation retreat that took place at the Sacred Heart Retreat Center on September 7th through the 9th was the greatest experience of my life. I learned more then I could have ever imagined possible. I spent the weekend praying, laughing and growing with friends and I would not change a single thing about it. I made friendships and bonds that I intend to keep. Since that weekend I have been more involved with the church then ever. The things I heard on retreat from both my teachers and peers alike made me grow in faith and as a person. That weekend will forever remain in my memory as the people I shared it with will forever remain in my heart.
