So things are kind of overwhelming right now. I start teaching in less than two weeks, and my classroom hasn't really been touched. They were using it as storage last year, so in the middle of my third grade class where there should be desks and such is a home center, about 5 easels, big book storage things and much much more. I went in today after training and just sat there for two hours, trying to figure out what needs to be put where and how and all of that good stuff. I think I have it all figured out now, if only they would turn the AC on so I could move stuff without falling over from the heat.

On that same note of teaching, I've been in training all week learning how to teach reading/writing, science and math. They have basically handed us a calendar that gives us a daily lesson to do and kits with all of the materials in it. It's fantastic for first year teachers. It takes the guess work out of whether or not we covered everything on those damn TAKS tests or not and if we're teaching things in a good order or not, but it also takes away any of the creativity of putting our own mark on things. Maybe once I get in there and actually start teaching, I'll find a way to do it on my own, but I'm kind of wondering why I went to college for five years how to do this part.

I've met all of the new teachers at my school, but one, and they are all great! We seem to get along really well, and it will be nice knowing they'll be there when we need someone to make us breathe. I've also met two of the three other third grade teachers and they were equally great. I think they'll help me out a lot, especially since they've been where I am now just a couple of years ago. Also a very social group, which will make the move up here that much easier. As much as I complain about how not ready I am and how scared I am, I'm really excited about the year. I think I found a school with a staff that I can relate to and work/socialize with and have a good time.

I must now return to my computer print outs and my crayons...they are calling my name!
