Jesse's brows shot up as soon as the words began to spill from her mouth. Safe to say, he'd definitely not been expecting that. He'd sensed her not so great mood, and the scenario in which it only annoyed her more that he'd come in and meddled in some part of her life had been floating around in the back of his mind. But now he could sense that her not so great mood was less... moody and more... guilt-ridden, he guessed. And she probably needed someone to talk to, hence spilling everything to him in less than ten or so seconds. Of course Camryn had mentioned these Isaac issues to him when they'd talked, but he hadn't thought it'd been this bad. She began knocking her head against the desk, but he made no attempt to stop her doing so. The words began to process in his mind, and he was once more reminded of dull but heavy feeling in his gut. He knew how she felt. Maybe minus the whole Dakota being... in love with him part, because that was far from true. But then again, he'd pulled her in, and then almost... kicked her out, so to speak. So that caught him up to her a little bit. “I've known you since you were eleven, so I don't mind the ranting. I'm actually kind of used to it,” he shrugged finally. “As for your school work, it's the second day back - give yourself a break. It's mostly introductions anyway, I doubt you've missed anything insanely important. And as for your conscience, I think you're being too hard on yourself. I mean, not entirely, but whatever. Maybe he thinks he's in love with you-” he paused for a moment. “Sorry... I kind of heard,” he added, deciding to continue on before she could say anything, “But it's been, what? A couple of months? I mean, I'm not an expert, but I don't think that's really possible. Like... how much does he actually know about you?” His eyes moved to her forehead, “Does he know you got that scar chasing Gabe because he was taunting you by stealing one of your dolls? That you can't stand to read... books and things, but find a magazine article you're interested in and you can polish it off in less than a couple of minutes? That... I don't know, you'd choose Gabe over him and over any guy in less than a second, despite whatever circumstances.”
He shrugged again, after his big rant, which was not about a book or a debate about something trivial, which was pretty much a rarity. Though, in second thought, he guessed it could be counted as a debate about something trivial. “I just don't think he could love you, it's impossible. There's probably about fifty odd more small details like that he'd have to know before he could say he does. He either thinks he does, or he... loves...” It took all of his effort not to roll his eyes right then, “...who he thinks you are.” Moron he added in his mind. He shrugged one last time, “So I think that should take at least a little bit of weight of your shoulders. It's not your fault he's... sprinting before he's learnt how to walk, so to speak.” He glanced away, busying himself with pulling his book out of his bag, not bothering to ask if she was breaking up with him. It wasn't really any of his business. Maybe he was a Prince, but just because one of his parents was of royal decent and decided to fuck another person without birth control, didn't mean that she couldn't do better. He thought she could.
this is all really filler until you know.eleanorvegaJune 21 2010, 02:56:12 UTC
It had barely taken more than 'he thinks he's in love with you' to catch Ellie's attention. Not that she wasn't listening to his prior thoughts, but this was the only thing that seemed to be relevant to the fresh senior student. Her head shot up as she glanced at Jesse, curiously. Listening carefully, Ellie pressed her elbows against the desk as her eyes studied Jesse. With all he was saying... he had a point, and as much as Ellie would like to say this was a once in a life time thing, Jesse tended to always have a point and an accurate one at that. How much did Isaac really know about her? They hardly saw each other in the few months they had been a couple, she was always busy and they never really talked. What could he possibly have learned other than her schedule? She didn't even notice, but Ellie was nodding her head in agreement to whatever words Jesse was speaking. When he mentioned her scar, she lightly touched her fingers to her forehead, kind of phased that he knew all of this... when Isaac was more likely to just call her beautiful and not acknowledge said 'imperfection'. "No, no you're right." She waved it off with her hand when jesse made the last comment. "I'm not the girl that he thinks I am. I can't be her. I don't want to be, and I won't let myself." And now she felt awful. In a way, she felt like she was talking herself out of all of it. All of the Isaac drama, dating him, falling for him, falling out of 'it' with him. Wasn't all of this because of Jesse anyway? None of the Isaac drama would've happened if Jesse hadn't pulled those moves before.
She didn't want to over think this though - anymore than she already had been. After sitting in silence for a few minutes, Ellie finally snapped out of her thoughts, and almost desperate to seek conversation she dug down deep. Not that deep, apparently. "So... Dakota. How you holdin' up?" She knew it had been a while ago but still, she hadn't heard from him about it.
Not wanting to make any further comment on the issue, since he figured it was probably something she needed to work out on her own, he simply gave her an understanding nod and flipped through the pages of his book before he got to the one he recalled being up to. Her thinking was in the right direction, at least. If he had one guess, judging on the vibe he was getting from her (and he did have an accurate one at that), he'd say they wouldn't make it through the month. Not that that didn't serve the moron right. Couldn't he see any part in the royal life would bore her? Sure, she conformed perfectly to high society, but he doubted half the things that happened behind closed doors would even be thought of there. Plus, where was the fun in two women politely conversing if they weren't internally bitch slapping each other? In love with her... Again, what a moron. She was more intricate than a couple of months would be able to tell you.
The silence was broken then, and he'd realised he hadn't been reading so much as staring at the page without taking in the words. That didn't happen much. His ears definitely pricked at the name that had come from her mouth, and as expected, the dead weight in his gut gave another tug. He kept his features void of any expression or reaction, though, and simply shrugged as if he was still concentrating on reading. “Fine,” he said simply, not meaning to be short, but not exactly wanting to talk about it. But somewhere inside of him, he felt a small twinge of guilt for a completely different reason (another rarity), and since she'd just spilled all of this to him, he didn't want her to feel weird or rejected because he didn't reciprocate. What the hell. He dropped his book spine-faced-upwards on the desk, looking straight ahead of him and shrugging. “I didn't make a very good boyfriend. I guess I'm not really cut out for it. But trust me, I didn't make much of an impact in her life. Give it a couple of months, and she'll probably forget we even had a thing. No big deal.” He didn't mention the constant guilt that was at least slowly lessening, or the fact that on the odd occasion, he'd feel himself wanting to tell her things, and wondering if maybe he'd put in a bit more effort, it might've worked. Then again, putting himself in a situation where he still had him once more gave him that unexplainable need to break free. It's not that he couldn't handle commitment to one girl only, because he'd proved that at least twice, even if it was in a friends with benefits situation. One girl at a time was preferable. Just not when it was involving a relationship where you were supposed tell each other everything and wait a really long time for sex. Still, Ellie seemed just fine with the explanation he'd given her, and even if there was any slight curiosity there, she didn't question him any further, and for that he was thankful. But she could probably sense he didn't want to talk about it much. She'd probably known him long enough to recognize the signs.
Going back to his book, and now feeling comfortable that they seemed to be falling back into old routine (minus her being flirty or pushing herself on him, which made it easier, since he didn't have to be tempted, and therefore didn't have to be as insensitive to her), and feeling no need to have to bring up any kind of forced conversation, he was perfectly able to concentrate on his book, and zone out his surrounding as usual. So safe to say, by the time he looked up, he hadn't noticed in the slightest that class had finished more than five minutes ago, and now the class was completely empty. Well, almost empty. Checking the page he was up to and then letting the book fall closed, he glanced at Ellie, taking note of her slightly worried expression. He thought he knew what she was doing. “You know, if he somehow tracked down your schedule, this mightn't be as good an idea as you think.” He quickly added, “Then again, maybe that's a bit extreme, so... just kidding.” He waited a little while this time, before saying more quietly with nothing short of a smirk, “... Kind of.”
longer.. than i thought!eleanorvegaJune 23 2010, 22:39:37 UTC
Ellie nodded at Jesse's explanation. He had always claimed that he wasn't boyfriend material. Now of course, being 'in love' with Jesse, Ellie had always doubted his claim but now he had proof. It was almost bitter sweet for her. As over Jesse as she was, she wanted to be able to prove him wrong, she knew he was better than he let himself be. Ellie almost wanted to smile at the thought of Dakota and Jesse not lasting, just because it was Jesse who always said Isaac wouldn't last and it was Dakota who have Ellie reason to hold heartbreak. But then again... Isaac wasn't lasting. Not for long, anyway. Not at this rate. Maybe Jesse was right. A shiver was sent down Ellie's back, and she flinched out of her thoughts and focused back onto her work.. as much as she could, anyway.
Ellie cautiously checked on the clock every few minutes knowing that as soon as this class let out she would be available for the rest of the day. Isaac would be too. She figured he'd text her, and once class let out, her phone vibrated on beat. Ignoring it, Ellie anxiously began to shake her leg, and then tap her pen against the table as she bit down on her thumb nail. She knew ignoring him was the worst way to go about any of it, but she couldn't 'man' up. "Hah," was all Ellie could really muse to Jesse's comment. She knew by this point he meant her no harm, he now understood the severity of 'hurting' her. "I mean... just a few more minutes. You don't have to stay, I'm a big girl now, Jess." She smiled to him, as she closed her binder and began organizing her things into her bag. "But thanks anyway - " She said as she glanced over at Jesse one more time, stopping short with a gasp. "Jesse, what happened to your eye?" She hadn't noticed it before, but there was a black and blue rim just around his right eye. Overreacting like she normally would, Ellie grew concerned as she leaned forward and ever-so-slightly traced her fingers along the outline. After a moment of examining it, Ellie moved her eyes from the bruise to Jesse's eyes, hardly realizing how close to his face she was. "Uh - sorry.." She stated, pulling her fingers and self back, sending her eyes downward.
oh hey, surprise, i rambled.jessedugrayJune 26 2010, 09:24:31 UTC
”You don't have to stay,” she'd said, like he'd done so intentionally. He'd lost track of time, but now he didn't particularly want to leave. It was actually kind of entertaining, not that he'd ever tell her. He did know how it felt to put things off like this, and he did kind of feel for her, so... he kept his mouth closed and didn't say a thing. He watched her intently as she began to pack her things away, and when she turned to him again, she stopped short. He was mildly confused, until he followed the slight movement of her eyes, stopping on his left eye. Right, he'd almost forgotten, since he could no longer feel it's presence in the terms of pain anymore, and since she hadn't noticed the whole period, it'd kind of slipped his mind. And before he could even pick up on the fact that she was going to do it, her fingers were fluttering across the side of his face. He guessed maybe she didn't even realize she was about to do it. Still, it felt like someone had just kicked him into a state of hyper-awareness. He could specifically feel the both of their presences in the room, the only sounds breaking the silence a muffled chatter coming from the halls outside that was slowly dying down, and the clear, precise ticking of the clock towards the front of the room. And then the ever so slight blush creeping across the cheek that was visible to him and the side of her neck. To which he found himself biting back a chuckle or smile for some reason.
He didn't mention anything about her apology, simply leaning back in his chair as if to brush the whole thing off. “Some moron sucker-punched me,” he shrugged, “No big deal, they ended up having it a lot worse anyway.” Gabe had wanted him to check out this fight club he'd heard about in New York, and not particularly interested, but wanting to make sure he didn't get into any insane kind of trouble, he'd agreed. Gabe would fight and he'd bet money on him, just to have some kind of involvement. After Gabe had won his first and only fight, some guy had called him out, and obviously his attitude wasn't taken very well to, and the guy had grabbed his shoulder as he'd turned to walk away and punched him square in the side of the face, Gabe had fought back, and in the end, they'd ended up running off with the most of their money, and bought over 100 grams of weed to laugh it all off. Thinking back on it, they probably could've died if they hadn't been able to outrun these guys. But whatever, things had turned out fine. It obviously just wouldn't be as safe as usual for them to be walking around that part of the city ever again. Of course, he didn't feel the need to elaborate on all of that to her. He wasn't unaware to the fact that she worried about Gabe, and he knew she'd probably be mad, thinking Gabe was dragging him into all of it. He hadn't even mentioned the fact that it had happened on some kind of detour with Gabe, but he figured she would realize that herself. Maybe he didn't have the best reputation, but without Gabe, he'd probably just be the quiet kid that read all the time and took little interest in socializing. “I didn't really want to bother Camryn with something like this, plus I had something for the pain.” Joints did wonders for that kind of thing. He had a lot of his share left, and at the rate he went through it, he was going to have it for a long time yet. He could tell she was still slightly worried at the vague explanation she'd given him, and he felt like he maybe knew what she was thinking. “Don't worry, he didn't drag me into anything I didn't want to do. Whatever. Ended up being kind of fun anyway. And hey, I'm at Segreto now... he'll probably just drag Nick along to these kinds of things from now on.” He felt a fast stab of jealousy, and he hoped he'd done an okay job at masking it. Sure he and Gabe were like brothers when they were both at New York and both at Segreto, but even when he got the time to come here, Jesse's bets were on him spending most of the time with Stella.
... a little.jessedugrayJune 26 2010, 09:25:27 UTC
Which made sense, he wasn't complaining. Whatever. He knew how these things went, and he wasn't going to try and stop it from happning. That would be weird. So... come to think of it, like he had before Gabe, he was probably to be more or less keeping to himself and taking little interest in anyone else. In fact, he could probably consider Stella his closest friend, which was sad, considering he only ever talked to her because of Gabe, because friends were kind of expected to get along with friend's girlfriends, and half the time he found himself on the line of being irritated by her. You know what, Ellie he'd only ever started talking to because of Gabe... Camryn, Lia, Nick, Nate, pretty much everyone. He'd always thought of Ellie as Gabe's sister before anything else, so despite their history, it was even hard to think of her as anything else. Whatever, it was fine. He had Maggie and nobody else to bother him. Even if it was nice to have someone to pull him out of a funk or out of his bad habits sometimes. Wait - how long had he'd been caught up in his own head just then? Trying to brush off the embarrassment of that, he grabbed his book and tucked it into his bag along with the blank notebook he hadn't touched, getting himself ready to leave.
He shrugged again, after his big rant, which was not about a book or a debate about something trivial, which was pretty much a rarity. Though, in second thought, he guessed it could be counted as a debate about something trivial. “I just don't think he could love you, it's impossible.
