When Archie comes to, it's to a dark room with no windows. He is disoriented for a while, trying to identify the place where he is. His neck hurts and his back feels stiff; he tried to lift a hand to rub it on his abused skin, only to find out that he has both his wrists chained to the chair he is sitting on.
Flashes of memories assault him - he remembers running, music blasting in his ears as the road stretched right in front of him, the van that stopped at his right, the arm that reached out and then falling, deeper and deeper, and his only thought had been what's going on? before someone switched off the lights.
Suddenly he's very thankful of the darkness surrounding him, for he has realized he is crying, and he doesn't know where all these tears come from but they don't stop and he is in pain all over his body and he doesn't know where he is or for how long he has been kept in this room and the walls are starting to close in and there is nothing he can do to save his life - and oh gosh, what if these people, whoever they are, want to kill him - and screaming seems out of the question, and he is going to die from asphyxia in this place and there's noise outside the room, and someone is yelling something but Archie can't make out what they're saying, and oh gosh, what if they're planning to finish him, and then there's noise like a gun being shot and Archie wants to die right then because he knows he won't be able to go with his dignity intact if he's chained to a chair and shot in the head, and the door leading to the room is broken down and Archie is blinded by the sudden light and he can't hear anything at all.
He closes his eyes against the luminosity seeping into the room and that helps his hearing, since he is now able to understand everything, and there are people screaming his name and there is smoke and more shooting, and above all that he can hear godarchieifyoueverscaremelikethatagainiswearillkillyoumyself and he has never been so relieved to hear that growly voice in his whole life.
Strong hands are cradling him while someone takes off the cuffs from his wrists, and the same voice is muttering openyoureyesopenyoureyesopenyoureyesarchieiswearopenyoureyes, so he obeys and the first thing he sees is a worried sea of blue and black and lip rings that shine with so much force that they blind him slightly again. He opens his mouth to speak but his throat is parched and his lips are chapped so he just gapes.
But it's okay because Neal is caressing his skin and whispering sweet words to him, even if they don't make much sense anymore, or maybe it's Archie's ears that are damaged, because all he can hear in the gibberish is iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou and dontyoueverleavemeagainorilldie.
