[Pardon Athrun for a moment. He's...quite surprised.]

...Lacus?!

[ But she gives him a small smile She was happy to see a familiar face. ]

I must say, Athrun, you are the last person I ever thought I would meet here.

[He recovers quickly enough. After all, he wants to make sure she knows what's going on.]

...Yeah, I wasn't expecting to see you here, either.

Has anyone explained to you the situation yet?

[ She paused a bit, wondering how she should respond. It wasn't difficult to find out about this world. Most of the locals were only happy to fill in with what they know, but there were still some things she had no answer for. ]

Yes, you could say that. But they couldn't really supply all of the answers I need.

[ She paused a bit, trying to keep her igglybuff from struggling. It was trying to see who Lacus was talking to. Lacus giggled and smiled wider. ]

By the way, Athrun. You look very well---but unlike me, you don't seem at all surprised by where we are.

Is it safe to assume that you... have information about this place?

I do, but there are still some things I don't know. I suppose I should start by mentioning that time works...strangely when it comes to this place. Apparently while we're here, it doesn't flow at all back home.

As for myself...I've already been here for a full year, almost to the day.

[ She gives him a look of surprise because she had seen him not long ago. She remembered maybe a week ago--- but a year?

Was it really possible? She had never heard of such technology that could manipulate time to such a huge degree. ]

This... this can't be... I---

It's the truth, Lacus. I wish I knew how this was happening, but I don't.

The only potential lead I have is the gym challenge -- traveling the region and collecting badges from the gym leaders. If I get all eight, I can go to the Pokémon League and hopefully get some answers.

[ For a very rare moment, Lacus is not showing her usual calm and collected look. This time, she was really worried.

This was really all too much to take in. Even for her. But, she takes and deep breath. ]

I... I see. Tell me more about the gym challenge.

Do you believe winning will bring us answers on how to return home?

Eight of the ten cities and towns in the Johto region have a Pokémon gym, and each gym has a leader. If you can defeat a gym leader in a Pokémon battle, the leader will reward you with a badge that acts as proof of your victory. Trainers who have earned all eight badges are permitted to challenge the Pokémon League, which is run by the strongest trainers in the region.

...To be honest, I'm not fully certain that it will. But it's something I feel is worth trying. And right now, I have no other leads.

That is true. It is a better plan than moving about blindly.

[ At the serious look on Lacus's face, Mister Pink tried getting her attention again. It made Lacus also realize that in order to win these gym battles, she had to send Mister Pink to fight. ]

Mister Pink, would you mind fighting by my side?

[ The answer was just another excited nod. Making Lacus smile. ]

Doctors... how about doctors, Athrun? After a fight, shouldn't they be given medical care?

They should. That's why there's a Pokémon Center in every city and town ahead. Unless they're critically injured, the staff there can heal a Pokémon in a matter of minutes. And it comes free of charge.

When you're traveling, though, you won't have access to Pokémon Centers, which is why you should stock up on Potions and other healing items when you're in town. You can get those from any PokéMart.

[ Still patting her igglybuff on the head, she sighed. ]

I can't say that knowing this will make me at all too excited about the idea of making Mister Pink fight, Athrun.

I know. But, when you're on the road, there will be times where you won't have a choice. Generally, you can avoid running into wild Pokémon by staying out of the tall grass, but there are a few points where you have to walk through tall grass to keep going.

And wild Pokémon are more aggressive than their tamed counterparts. They might attack, and if they do, your Pokémon are your only line of defense.

There is another thing you can do, though. While you're on the road, you can catch wild Pokémon using any spare Poké Balls you have. That way, you can add more members to your team, and you don't have to rely on any particular team member too much.
