I think I almost beamed with pride when my dad said, "God, she is so smart". I was 16 or so and we were at dinner. He just said it so earnestly it made me so happy. But I'm such a sucker for compliments. Just last night I gave our waiter an extremely generous tip because he told Austin and I he was "impressed by our sophisticated palettes" when we were discussing flavors and ideas with him. Being told I'm smart is probably the best compliment I can get. However, I am not a fan of compliments about my looks. I appreciate it when family or friends tell me I look nice, but if a strange man says, "Your hot" I want to smack him in the face. Like saying I look good is the greatest compliment he could give me - I consider it an insult.
compliments,
