"Shattered Glass"...and other stuff

Yes, we watched that ridiculous movie again. Actually, the movie itself isn't ridiculous, it's Stephen Glass that's ridiculous. For those of you who don't know, this is what the movie's about:
A 24-year-old guy named Stephen Glass is a reporter for The New Republic, the in-flight paper of Air Force One. A little way into the movie he goes to Law School, adding yet more work to his load. Go a little bit further into the movie and they discover that he fabricated his biggest story. Toward the end, they find out that he didn't just fabricate that one story, he fabricated 27 of the 41 stories he wrote for them.

It's an intense movie; you really have to see it to get the feel. As a journalist, I personally think this guy is a disgrace. He gives reporters everywhere (including myself) a terrible name. I'm sorry -- I know he was a scared and self-conscious kid who has a lot on his plate and a lot of pressure on him, but that's not an excuse...there's never an excuse to completely fabricate a story. Now, a future reporter and photographer like me should ask myself, what would I do in his situation? First of all, he only went to Law School to fit in with his parents and their ideals -- that right there was his first mistake, and what ultimately led to his journalistic demise. He worked way too hard to make everyone in his life happy. His girlfriend, his editor, his parents, his sources, his readers...what he wasn't learning was that you just can't do that. You're just not gonna be able to please everyone all the time.

Also, the effort he put into making up all that went to waste; he could've been coming up with a way to write a real, true, legitimate story with that energy. He got his brother to record a voicemail message for on of his sources (Steve claimed he couldn't track the source down). He made up other numbers and made an imaginary website. With all that, he could've at least attempted to write a real story. I don't understand why he didn't think they'd catch all that fabrication. Honestly; they fact-check everything a million times. Hehe...I just feel strongly about it.

In other news, lower bowl info still isn't here. I'm kinda upset, but they can't keep it from us forever...at least I hope they're not keeping it from me. I keep checking their website and it isn't there. Blessings do come with patience, and patience is a virtue, but GOSH! I wouldn't be so anxious about it if I hadn't camped out this year! I didn't camp out for nothing -- I want to know whether my efforts paid off or not (I went through a lot for those lower bowl seats, damnit).

In more news, society is finally beginning to recognize the problem with body image and thinness. I read a couple articles in People about anorexia and thin ass models. Some girls are seriously diseased mentally when it comes to anorexia and bulimia. Oh well...so happens in a society that's so centered on what others think. TTFN, I've gotta write my Reaction Paper.
