Part 3
Emma woke up to the smell of pancakes. She stretched and yawned and got out of bed. She was happy to be at the farm house, but she really missed her Mom and couldn’t wait for her to come home. Then they would all be together again. As she walked down the stairs, Emma could hear Natalia talking to someone. She didn’t know who it was, but when she walked into the kitchen and saw her Mom sitting at the table. She flew into Olivia’s arms.
“Mom!”
“Hey there, Jellybean.” Olivia said as she held Emma tight and kissed her head.
“You came home!”
“Yes, I came home. Is that okay?” Olivia smiled as she held onto Emma and pulled her into her lap.
“Yes!” We missed you. Didn’t we Natalia?”
“Yes, Sweetie. We sure did.”
As Natalia watched her two girls, she realized that, at this moment, her family was almost complete. Even if they weren’t sure about what the future held, they would be together. All she needed now, was for Rafe to come home and she would be content.
“Hey, Em? Natalia and I were wondering if it would be okay with you if we moved back to the farm house.”
“Really?”
“Well, we were hoping it would be okay with you, but if you want to stay at the Beacon, we can still live there with all our …”
“Yes! We can move here! Yeah!” Emma squeezed her Mom tightly.
Olivia laughed as she held her daughter and when she looked up at Natalia, she had the biggest smile on her face. She also noted that Natalia was getting a little teary, so she whispered for Emma to go and give Natalia a hug.
As Emma went over to Natalia she turned to Olivia and said, “You too, Mom.”
Olivia smiled and held onto the woman she loved, thinking that she had never been happier.
“Okay.” Natalia said as she reluctantly pulled away. “Pancakes are ready. Shaped like little hearts, just the way you like them.”
As Emma ate her breakfast, Olivia watched Natalia moving about the kitchen. She had come back home and it instantly warmed her, faster than a hot summer sun. The future was looking better and better and she looked forward to it.
When Emma was upstairs getting dressed, Natalia spoke softly. “Do you want to move back today?”
Olivia had to stop herself from responding with a loud, “Hell, yes!” and composed herself. “Well, I don’t see why not. I have to pack up some of my stuff and call the movers again. I wonder if I can get a multiple use discount?”
Natalia rolled her eyes at the attempted humor. “Funny.”
“Well, if you help, we can get it all done today. I’ll call Jane and have her pick up Emma and we can head over to the Beacon as soon as we’re ready.”
“That sounds like a great idea. Why don’t you go and get dressed, and I’ll be right behind you after I clean up the kitchen.”
Olivia got up and put her coffee cup on the counter beside Natalia. She took Natalia’s hands in her own and said, “Thank you.”
“For what?”
Olivia cupped her hand on Natalia’s cheek. “For letting us come home.”
Natalia’s eyes filled with tears as she covered Olivia’s hand with her own. I really have to get myself together. I’m so happy she’s here I keep crying. “Oh, Olivia. I don’t ever want you to be away again. This is where you belong. Thank you for coming back.”
They drew together in a tender embrace and took comfort in each other’s arms.
