So goes another Saturday...
It's Long Beach Grand Prix weekend and the typical overcrowded 'straight - fest' is going on with all the fanfare of the noise too. I live about a mile from the race and it sounds like annoying mosquitoes all afternoon. Then there's the after-race crowds filling the local bars and restaurants and streets.
Usually, I get out of town for this weekend, but this year it's the weekend of the "Day of the Ride" for the Aids LifeCycle. In fact, the ride is tomorrow bright and early starting in Santa Monica and heading down to Palos Verdes and back. The total ride is around 65 miles, complete with pit stops, lunch stop, roadies, and sweep teams. Sean and I are two of the Ride Leaders this time so we get to keep an eye out on the newbies and lend a hand when we need.
So I sit here waiting until Sean comes up to get me then we'll head over to WeHo to spend an evening with pup Don and crash at his place. A good carb load dinner, then it's bright and early (4:30a.m.) when we have to be out and at the start point. Kick off is 7:30, but there's all kinds of prep and speeches that go on just beforehand.
Should be a fun morning/afternoon. I feel up to it and look forward to the hills I'm about to ensue... Especially the nasty climb in Palos Verdes that I always seem to hate. I always tell the newbies that if they can do THAT monster climb, they'll be ready for the actual ride in June.
I'll try to post some pix from the ride tomorrow...
