Had a fun night after work yesterday...
Nick came up and got me from work and we headed down to Long Beach for dinner & movie. Little did I realize that we got back so early (the movie wasn't until 7:30) that we would have a few hours to kill. So we decided to do a little bowling. Good Christ on a Ritz cracker, was I BAD! We bowled only two games and I never bowled more than 100 in either one! I'm also VERY sore today in my arm and legs. You would have thought I rode my bike 50 miles using my hands instead of feet! Regardless, we played and had a little fun before walking over to PF Changs for a nice meal.
Afterwards, we still had about 45 minutes to kill so we went into a Borders Books store and I found (and bought) my latest addition to my Gregory Maguire collection in hardback:
I only hope this is better than "Son of a Witch" which I thought was rather rushed to finish. I haven't started reading it yet, but will most likely tonight on my way home from work.
--------------------------------------- MOVIE TIME! (No spoilers are in my review) -----------------------------------
So now to get to my mini-review of Tim Burton's newest, "9".
On the letter grading scale from A to F, this one I would give a good B+. The run time is only about 90 minutes so expect plenty of previews! I think it's going to be one of those flicks you're either going to really like or really don't care for.
It's visually amazing with the graphics and, like almost every Tim Burton flick, it's a dark story. It jumps right into the post-apocolyptic setting with a few flashbacks to give you a sense of what happened to humanity and were the main character, 9, and the other 8 (only named by their respective numbers) came from.
The movie is a teen boy's wet dream of what video games are made of style and I'm sure there will be a video game of this movie out there soon if there isn't one already.
The movie definately isn't for the youngsters as there are plenty of violent scenes, loud noises, and at times scary images. Don't expect any 'love' story in this one either. There are few 'light' moments but most of it is all suspense and action.
I'm a true sucker for sci-fi and Tim Burton films and it didn't dissappoint. My only wish is that it was in 3D. When we first saw a preview of "9" back when we saw "Up", we saw the preview in 3D and I was so ready to see it. Unfortunately, it's not because some of the scenery was just screaming to be viewed in the depth only 3D can provide.
A good weekend movie for you guys! The gals, on the other hand, may not want to see this (there's only one female character in the movie)....
