The Poets Down Here Don't Write Nothing at All / They Just Stand Back and Let It All Be

Ruby Jade

The autumn air anoints
A suddenly hatched harmonium sunrise.
She never felt her feet today,
Sweet Ruby Jade.

Her friends the orange eggshell leaves
Last saw her milking eyelashes.
The almond acid fell away,
Cast off by months
As brittle brown from trees
Or salt and sea from broken heads,
Sweet Ruby Jade.

She swore she'd never sing again.
This morning,
Skipping,
She made melody with limbs and breeze,
A fresh and funky sway,
Sweet Ruby Jade.
