http://starwars.com/news/star-wars-episode-7-cast-announced.html Today was the big table read in London, so I guess Team Star Wars capitulated and released the cast list today. Basically, it's all of the main guys who survived ROTJ plus a bunch of new guys. But not Billy Dee Williams.
A few notes:
1) First time there will be two female main characters. Will one movie be big enough to contain two Star Wars divas? I must also be the only one who has noticed that every female Star Wars lead must have an "eee" thing going in their names: Carrie, Natalie, and now Daisy. Fifty bucks says Daisy's character is Han and Leia's daughter.
2) Of all of the rumored names, only Oscar Isaac and "Girls" co-star Adam Driver panned out.
3) Max Von Sydow and Andy Serkis were total surprises. I hope Serkis plays a Gungan, heh heh. Von Sydow joins Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee as veteran character actors to appear in a Star Wars flick.
4) Aside from Driver, Von Sydow, and of course the OT crew, I have never heard of anyone else. Dossiers coming soon!
5) My educated guess says Ridley is playing Han and Leia's daughter, and Von Sydow might be a villain (he excels at that sort of thing), but I have no idea who anyone else not reprising an old role is playing.
Update: The Hollywood Reporter says there's one more major female role not yet cast. (Whut?) Could it be the one that supposedly they were considering Lupita Nyong'o and Maisie Richarson-Sellers for?
