good morning, avid readers

i really should get out of bed and get a shower (more on that later), and shave, but i'm still in the mood to laze. and since i've neglected you for the past two weeks, here's what i hope turns out to be a good blog.

so the biggest event of the past few weeks was the asnos' visit. i picked them up on thursday and subsequently dropped them off on friday for london. saturday i went to the eintracht match against hamburg, which i now realize i have already blogged about. but it is worth a second mention, as we won 2:1.

the asnos returned from london on monday afternoon, and i picked them up at the correct terminal (as opposed to the incorrect one where i dropped them off). i was able to procure some champions league tickets to the schalke - valencia match in gelsenkirchen on tuesday, so i took off in the afternoon and we drove up there. CHAMPIONS! it was quite fun, though they did lose 1:0 while squandering many excellent scoring opportunities.

as traffic was, of course, bad leaving the stadium, we didn't get back until past 2am tuesday night. so i took off all day wednesday, and we headed in the afternoon over to frankfurt for the world's largest car show. it was nice, though crowded. the smart auto females were the nicest dressed, the best looking girl worked for jaguar, and mercedes had the nicest exhibit.

thursday was bayern! we headed down to neuschwanstein to do the castle/tour/crap your pants bridge thing. down to reutte (austria) and back across into deutschland via my mom's favorite winding/mountain/lake-side road. and then across to berchtesgaden, where we had only slight difficulty finding the guesthouse. which, despite claiming to have check-in until 11pm, would have been closed had we arrived two minutes later. and the kitchen, as well as anywhere else with food, was already closed. so we had a nice supper of pop tarts, doritos, cheese crackers, and chips ahoy. all washed down with a liter of beer. what more could anyone want?

friday was the eagle's nest. we peugeot'd it up the 24% incline to obersalzburg, where 14.50 € buses took us the rest of the way. spectacular views of salzburg, the königsee, and the alps. tough life leading the third reich. the "tea house" was not anything overly ornate, but the views were more than worthwhile.

then attempting to find lunch awhile before stopping at the pennymarkt for the finest meats and cheeses (and cookies) in the land. we had originally planned on perhaps visiting another one of ludwig II's castles, herrenchiemsee, but the distance and ambiguity on tour times dissuaded. so we toured berchtesgaden and the königsee for a bit, before actually eating a real supper.

saturday was home, with a stop of a few hours at the medieval walled city of rothenburg on the way. sunday was home for the asnos. i had an excellent time with their visit, hit all the food high notes (italian & ratskeller downtown, brauhaus, pizza maria) with one exception (greek, closed for vacation). good travel, good laughs, and a truck belonging to the "frikus a" company.

which brings us to the current week. tuesday i joined the 169,999,940 other dollars purchasing halo 3 in the first 24 hours, setting a new record in entertainment premieres and beating the spiderman 3 release ($170m to the previous-record $151m). and i've played it since.

the girlfriend of one of my colleagues interns at deutsche bank, and invited us to their intern party last night in frankfurt. i had a great time, while also reaffirming my belief that i don't go there nearly enough. so, i met a young intern from düsseldorf, and i'm going back to take her out tonight. she actually practices labor law, which is exactly what jeremy does. though i'm sure she thought i was lying.

but first, some friends are coming over to play halo 3 for a few hours, and also watch the office season premiere from last night. which is why i should have gotten up to shower, bc now they're nearly here.

what a host.
