Happy New Years, and Christmas as well. I spent Christmas at my mother's house on Cape Cod and New Years at my Father's in NJ, and was able too see all of my brothers during this time, so in that most important respect, they where well spent. I'm afraid I received more then I gave for Christmas this year, however. (Every gift I purchased would have been calculated to take advantage of my B&N employee discount, except that I at least had the forethought to pick up a couple things in Disney, which was before I gave up on the hope of finding more profitable employment.) My brothers gave me Rock Band, because they have been trying to get me to play video games for years, so they where excited that I finally found one I like. I have been practicing! I can play guitar on medium! (I also got the second season of Venture Brothers; Alyssa, I'm inviting you to come over and watch it with me here, so that Todd will not have to watch. ^-^ )

I went with Evelyn and Pat to see Sherlock Holmes. It was a strange amalgamation, being largely an action movie, but sprinkled liberally with bits from the canon. There where things, like the bulldog (In a Study in Scarlet, Watson lists his pet bulldog puppy as one of the potential drawbacks to living with him that Holmes should be aware of before they become flat mates. And it is never mentioned again.) that seemed to be there to prove that the writer had read and enjoyed the books, but was picking and choosing which bits to use with deliberation. But the simple fact that they chose to highlight Watson's importance pleased me, as there is still a popular misconception that he was some kind of bumbling patroon. (Though that makes it all the more disappointing when they decide to turn Irene Adler into Catwoman) So, as long as you're going in expecting a (fairly slashy) piece of fanfiction, it's enjoyable.

Then I went to Dad's, along with Conor and Brendan, a couple days ago. We where actually planning to return on New Years Eve, but there was a snowstorm that detained us there another day. But we had no plans beside watching the Twilight Zone Marathon, so it was alright (I wouldn't have minded at all, except that I had some grad admissions stuff I was egger to get back to.) Remember, how you spend New Years Day has impact on how you will spend the rest of the year: I hope you all spent the day thinking of a happy future and shunning an unhappy past, and eating all the things you like the best.
