I hate this story becaus things which are perfectly obvious to me end up not being obvious to everybody else. The reason why the pirates don't kill Lucian is partly because they wanted revenge and / or ransom, and partly because he can control the stuff that makes the ship fly, and their current captain needs a replacement within the next few ( Read more... )

BACKSTORY: I had to come up with a reason why pirates, after kidnapping a kid, would then turn around and not kill him when the father of the kid refused to pay ransom.
