GODDAMN JESUS MOTHER FUCK.
I started the Seraphim shawl as garter lace because I find that when I purl back, my yarn-overs go all cockeyed and it upsets and confuses me and I'd rather not deal with it if I can conveniently avoid it. Also, I purl quite a bit tighter than I knit for some reason and that's annoying on lace-weight yarn. Last night, it finally occurred to me that the annoyance of tediously purling back was probably going to be worth being able to count the damn rows when I got to the actual pattern.
So, I did what I should have done from the beginning, which is fish out a pair of needles and some leftover yarn and sit down to figure out how I could do it so the yarnovers for the Seraphim didn't go all funny and small when I did it in stocking-stitch. Hopefully without purling into the opposite leg of the stitch to keep it open, because twisted stitches ever other row would be bad, rite?
And I'm sitting there. And I'm actually watching myself purl.
And it finally dawns on me, that, hey, I seem to be lifting an awful lot of the stitch when I make it. It's almost, but this is probably just me being crazy, it's almost like I'm twisting the stitch. So I try doing it the other way, and man, that doesn't lift the stitch hardly at all!
A horrible feeling fills my heart, like Sho realizing that Nino's nowhere to be seen and there's Rie-chan's coat on the chair.
I go online, and I ask Amy, who actually had real people teach her how to knit.
I have been twisting my purl stitches since I learned. All of them. aldjffadjkl;ada EVERY DAMN OTHER ROW IN THE PINK SWEATER OF DOOM IS NOTHING BUT TWISTED STITCHES. The unevenness I spent days freaking over, is because i didn't freaking have correct technique.
*CLAWS HEAD* GODDAMN IT NOW EVERY TIME SOMEONE ADMIRES IT I'M JUST GOING TO THINK 'YES BUT EVERY OTHER ROW WAS TWISTED ACCIDENTALLY DUE TO ME BEING STUPID LIKE AKANISHI.'
I WILL BE OVER HERE HAVING A CRISIS, SEND BOOZE AND SHO.
Mom keeps telling me loyally that it looks very textured and interesting, which is not helpful because where does she think I got this from? and Amy called specifically to point and laugh. Bitch.
