friend codes are used for connecting on Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, since the DS can connect over WiFi.

There's a homebrew app to make your DS an organizer. Not official Nintendo-ware, though. It's called DS Organize, and is available most places.

Funny fact: Waaay back when there was a planner/organizer cart for the original gameboy. Was apparently a nice little program, except for the part where they forgot to add a save function.
