I um may have sort of started teaching myself how to tat last night?

AMY: You are a crazy person! Why bother?
MOM: You are a crazy person! TATTING WITH A NEEDLE IS MUCH EASIER!!!!!!!!!
MEG: ...............shut up crazy lacemaking people.

I figure if I keep on learning enough weird shit like this I'll eventually break myself of getting mad and giving up if I am not a geeenius when I first try it. The real problem I had is that tatting is usually done on, I am not kidding, thread that is perhaps a few micrometers thicker than sewing thread, so I sort of went Huh and then dug out some crochet thread I had kicking around so I could actually see the stitches. And we are much happier. (Apparently people knit on size eighty DMC cotton? You almost have to respect that sort of crazy.)

Michael's happen to have a sale yesterday so I got two balls of Lion Heart Incredible ribbon yarn, and was sneaky like neenja and gave Mom a couple yards off one of the balls to see if she liked it. (Mother, besides beading, cross-stitching, sewing occasionally, painting pottery, watercoloring, knitting before her hands went out, needle-tatting, doing Hardanger open work and ribbon embroidery, also scrapbooks. She can't crochet that well, she says, regretfully.) Mother flailed like a whole lot, and the cunning neeenja retired to plot her mother's birthday present, first assuming this goddamn ribbon yarn does not drive her to drink.
