I specifically chose this theme thinking I would be writing the dark/Riku porns, but then Riku refused to talk to me and Yuri threw a bunny at my head.

The hell of it was, although Yuri couldn't find the words to express it, was that he'd spent all his life in the dark and being afraid of it. And it wasn't until Alice that he stopped being afraid of it. It was like she was some sort of night light, the type he remembered his mother putting out for him when he was very small. Around her the darkness was familiar and almost dear. She'd never minded darkness, not a bit. If they were sleeping out in the woods while they traveled she would lie down as calm as if she was in her own bed.
"But of course," she said, once, toward the end. "Yuri is with me. I'm not afraid."
Maybe she should have been more afraid, he thinks. It would have served her better, to fear him and the darkness more.
But even now, even though she's gone, he isn't afraid of the dark any more. It curled around him comfortingly, as if to say that the darkness made even the memory of her light shine more.
