1. Can Yuri read, do you think? It just occured to me that he is orphaned at a really young age in ...Russia? China? and he's not um well dumb it's just that he's more physically oriented. This would also sort of explain why he can't use the Crests -- but Lucia can and she's as dumb as a brick I suppose she was trained in it. But then again Kurando can't use Crests either? Perhaps they're in Latin or something.
If you are about to say, But Meg, the wolf uses the Crests, I reply that you obviously have not seen Blanca yet.
