All right, every time poor
everbright asks me something I end up derping off into the sunset instead of replying like I meant to, so!
{"Sam’s kids are great though,” says Jim. “It must be thanks to Aurie or something, but they’re totally awesome, and they do things like. Build models and I don’t know what else. Peter’s four and he’s just learning to read.”
Bones stares at him.
“We’re really proud of him for waiting this long!” says Jim.
“You know what,” says Bones wearily. “I was going to have a serious discussion with you about how you just landed yourself ear deep in shit, but now I’m going to go sit facing a corner and wonder why you’re proud of your nephew waiting until he was four to learn to read.”}
Ahahaha. Okay so. The thing about my version of the Kirk family is that they are all terribly smart and they are all terribly, terribly strange. George Sr and Jr are the ones that display the most normal behavior, and even then one of them thought ramming a ship into a space whale sounded like a good idea. And the thing about terribly smart people who are also terribly weird is, they understand they are weird and they try to match up with expect social norms but ... it doesn't work so well all the time. Well, and there's Aurie but she thought marrying a Kirk was a good idea and so Jim and Winona are suspicious of her actual sanity.
So while of course they love the next generation of Kirks and want them to be whatever the fuck they want to be, it's kind of a relief. That you know, they can fake normal so well.
On that note I am sitting in a corner muttering furiously to myself because I have hit my hard absolute limit on People Being Wrong on the Internet and making my eye twitch. Look, when you're writing a character with a medical issue, you can't just make shit up off the top of your head about how a real, documented disorder with real, documented treatments work! There is a minimum research standard here, Teen Wolf, and you are not meeting it.
Like the one -- I don't have a link and I'm too mad at it to find it -- where Scott's mother, who is a hospital nurse goes and gives Stiles Scott's inhaler for a panic attack.
*headdesk*
It might have been Scott, but I'm pretty sure it was Scott's mom. Like, okay, do people not understand the difference between a thing where you feel like you can't breathe because there is no actual air being taken in and a thing where you can't breathe because your brain has convinced itself it can't breathe? They get that one of these things is not like the other, don't they?
I don't even know what would happen if I took a hit off an inhaler for a panic attack! I think depending on what was in the inhaler it might actually make it a lot worse!
ANYWAY THIS IS MEG ATTEMPTING NOT TO POP FANDOM'S DEAR LITTLE HEADS LIKE DANDELIONS AGAIN, SAMI IF YOU GET A WEIRD EMAIL DEMANDING FACT CHECKS THIS IS WHY
