this is really beginning to bother me.

1. So in Teen Wolf, only Alphas can give the bite, which, okay fine. But why in fic do people have Derek chewing on Stiles like a rawhide? Sometimes they specify that 'he almost draws blood' or that he does break the skin, and half the time they specify that he's wolfed out, so it's not that he's in his human form or whatever. Leaving out instinctive horrified gurgles, why is this not turning Stiles?

Is ... it like a venom thing? Are his fangs actually gland ducts like a snake? Does he feel the pressure of werewolf ink in his incisors, trying to flow into Stiles' tender flesh? Is this as gross as I really think it is now? If you got one of those venom collector thingies and told Derek to bite down, would you have a sample of werewolf ink to study?

Would it be like, in Beta wolves the gland ducts aren't fully developed, so in the rush of winning the Alpha fight or whatever there's some sort of hormonal surge that makes the gland ducts functional? Like you know, pardon the comparison, what happens when you get pregnant and start lactating.

2. I really feel like people who write fic about how Stiles suddenly wants the bite because he loooovessss Deeerreeeekk are missing the point but we will shuffle that quietly aside to judge them in our own hearts. And I do. Judge them in my own heart. A lot.

3. I wish someone would write a fic where Stiles turns out to be asexual. I wish it with all my heart.

I've been mostly reblobbing things on Tumblr lately again d/t having just about enough energy for that and not a lot else. Haven't been sleeping well. Haven't been sleeping well is kind of a hilarious understatement, ugh. Also low-grade fevers, so that's been fabulous.

Thursday I went to the bookstore and got a book about World War One, because the lack of sleeping and mood-lowness was reaching critical levels, and books about World War One always cheer me up, in a horrible way. The Guns of August, by Barbara Tuchman. That woman could write. It's really good. WWI is kind of weird because without it, a lot of what happens today wouldn't be around -- it was the first war that really used chemicals in the fighting, the first one where media was almost realtime and The Media was able to send images of the war itself out in close to realtime. (The Civil War I guess was the first American war where media was a major player, but while news could get out close to realtime, dissimulation of news was still slow.) Women's rights actually got a giant kickstart too, which is kind of weird to say but true.
