well on .. Thursday? I think it was? there was a leaked slide from a Yahoo general meeting showing Delicious as being marked to be 'sunsetted', which caused a significant minority of the internet to rise up and shriek. Mass panic, discussion of alternatives, probably nasty calls and emails to Yahoo all around -- especially in fandom, because the reason why 85% of fandom uses Delicious is because so many people use it and so it's a pretty useful gauge ofan how good / how popular something is. whereas google, you know, you can find the fic but you have no idea how many people liked it or any idea what you're getting into. Plus the tags.

(Ravelry, the yarncraft site, does pretty much the samething with the favorites there, which makes it really useful for when you're prowling the patterns.)

Yesterday Yahoo released a statement saying that they weren't planning to close Delicious, they were planning to sell Delicious.

Which, if you ask me, means that they weren't a) expecting the slide to leak and b) the internet to rise up and call them not blessed, and are frantically backpedalling while they still can.
