The Day After
I open my eyes but remain motionless.
The room is spinning, my stomach still filled with butterflies.
Her scent, Jenny's scent lingers on my skin.
I am so scared to move, I don't want this to all be a dream.
There is a slight movement, pulling me out of my state of panic.
Jenny inches closer and closer until her skin is near enough to feel the heat radiate from it.
I listen to Jenny's slow, steady heartbeat, each thump creating a peace within me.
Then, it feels like fire as her fingertip brushes over my arm.
I look through the darkness, meeting her intense, blue eyes.
BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP
The alarm clock sounds, causing us to jump out of bed.
Her eyes trail up and down my body, forming goosebumps in their path.
"Would you like a shower Emma?"
I try hard to swallow the words that slip from my lips; "Will you be joining me?"
Jenny looks at me smiling and grabs my hand, leading us to the bathroom.
Neither of us speak a word, completely surrendering to the others touch.
I watch the water cascade down her body, so perfect, so inviting.
"We better get out of here and get ready for school, huh?" Rubbing her nose against mine.
"Yes, unfortunately." I grumble huffily and turn the faucet off.
As I'm toweling off, thoughts begin to invade my mind; I am already a complete nerd, I do not need this.
"Emma, do you want a little breakfast before we go?"
"No thank you, I will get a coffee at school."
I follow her out the door and climb in the car, "how will people react to Jenny and I holding hands,
kissing, giggling...."
I gasp as I feel her hand on my leg, taking my breath hostage as she tenderly draws little hearts.
"We're here Emma."
"I am going to go get me a coffee, see you later" hoping to avoid telling her I'm scared of how everyone will react.
"Emma, wait please!"
I pretend I don't hear anything and continue to walk away.
"What the hell is wrong with you Emma? How can you just leave her like that?"
Throughout the day I keep myself busy and away from Jenny, I'm not ready.
Then, at lunch break, she catches me and walks towards me-
All I can do is breathe her in and watch in awe as she comes closer and closer-
Her blue eyes bore straight into my soul, owning me-
I melt as her arms wrap around me, taking away all my fears.
On reflex, I take her face in my hands and softly kiss her lips.
