As some of you may or may not have heard, Summit City Radio has had a bit of a shake-up.
Though no complete formal announcements have been made as to future plans, X102.3's signal and station as a whole are being sold, and they only have two weeks left on the air.
So, what is going to happen to this perfectly good station, with the DJs and music that everyone loves? Complete silence. That's right... THERE IS TO BE NO MORE X102.3
The X - harking back to its days as 96.3 The Edge - has done an amazing job at cutting edge programming and finding a niché that no other station in Fort Wayne had. The X and its staff have always been firm supporters of the local music scene as well, and the Essentials compilations that are cranked out annually, as well as Essentials: The Show are solid proof of this commitment.
An inside source from SCR has alerted me that pretty much the new executive management team for the company feels that X102 has nothing to provide for the Fort Wayne market and radio landscape, and that there is barely any sort of base for them to exist. Honestly, I would like to know what the hell they are talking about.
Every X event I have ever attended always has a good turn out. For example, X was at the Auburn-Garrett Drive-In for Snakes on a Plane and EVERYONE chatted with Laureen and the X Crew and got loaded on free stuff. And shall we not forget the party buses, the tricked out cars, contests, and the fact that everywhere you go, there's the X?
X102 is home to not only a variety of music that cannot be found on any other Fort Wayne station, but it is a station that has stood the test of time. Sure, it did jump signals from 96.3 to 102.3, and has had a few name changes, but it has always kept the same identity and core foundation - a value that apparantly Summit City Radio feels is disposable, along with all of the amazing on-air talents found on the X.
I want to keep my radio station.
I am sure there are plenty of you out there that want to keep the X as well.
Sometimes, a unified voice is enough to let someone know that what they are doing is wrong.
I URGE YOU ALL TO CONTACT SUMMIT CITY RADIO AND TELL THEM THAT TAKING X102.3 OFF OF THE AIR IS NOT THE ANSWER TO ANYTHING, AND THAT DESTROYING THE JOBS, AND LIVES OF THEIR DJs, MARKETING TEAM, PRODUCTION TEAM, ETC. IS NOT KOSHER.
Their decision was quite sudden to, as it caught everyone off guard mid-week of last week.

You should also know that Mike-FM 102.9 is going to be gone as well, and will become the simulcasting outlet for 1250AM - The River.
How many of you also enjoy My 103.9??? Well, enjoy it while it lasts too. They will expire the same time as the X. They are going to convert back to ROCK104, but more than likely, that is to replace Z94.1 as SCR is trying to get rid of them too.
So, if anyone is in the market for a radio station, or wants to stand their ground against corporate stupidity, CONTACT SUMMIT CITY RADIO AND TELL THEM YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR RADIO STATION OR STATIONS - BE IT MY 103.9, Z94.1, X102.3, OR MIKE-FM 102.9
And for anyone who ever travels or frequents Fort Wayne, or is a firm supporter of local music, I HIGHLY encourage you to help out the bands in this area by dropping a line and saying how important it is to keep a station like X102 on the air.
I would like to thank everyone for their time, and let's see where this gets us.
