We’ve got a ‘staff away day’ at work on Friday. Which means that everyone has to go to Bentleigh to spend all day doing painfully awful team building exercises. The programme includes ‘Celebrating Success’, ‘What makes a successful team’ and ‘reflections’.
Arg! I hate all that ‘talk to the person next to you and introduce them to the group’ stuff. It’s not that I can’t see the wisdom of it, I can, but I find the way it’s done pretentious and unnecessarily long-winded and poncy. It’s all about posturing and using lots of management speak, we’d probably bond better by just going out for something to eat together. If we have to do role-play or trust games I swear I’m going to have to resign instantly.
But it’s funny, the day has a dress code. Smart casual. We were debating just what that might mean and today we’ve heard that it’s ‘what you normally come to work in’ which doesn’t include jeans. So, naturally, we’ve all decided to come in jeans.
Ha!
You can’t tell me what to wear. Fight the power. Say no to the man.
I wear jeans to work all the time. This is St. Kilda, we do things differently here you know. We’re cool, we’re bohemian, and St. Kilda is officially the gayest city in Australia for goodness sake. (It really is, there was a survey and St. Kilda has the highest number of gay people in the country.)
It’s completely adolescent, I know, but good fun.
