independence weekend update

This was a busy weekend, but SO MUCH FUN. I had Friday off for Independence Day (but the Initech University Library was open Saturday and Sunday, like, whose damn stupid idea was that? Who was actually going to come to the library on those days?). Anyway. So I spent Friday driving all over the place and visiting friends and having lots of fun!

I drove down to Denton in the morning and met etumon for lunch at the Olive Garden, which was awesome. They were doing really weird, annoying construction on Loop 288, which I think they were setting up for when I left, like, TWO YEARS ago, but I finally figured out how to get to the damn restaurant. We talked a lot and had lots of salad and made comments about how cute the waiter was when he was (hopefully!) barely out of earshot.

After etumon and I parted ways, I hooked up with coronafoxy3, because I have not seen her much AT ALL since I left, and I totally miss her. :-( My parents replaced their computer at Christmas and gave me the old one, and since I certainly didn't need another computer, I set it up for coronafoxy3. So now she can do her schoolwork and her work work from her room, and watch clips from the Daily Show and check her email and read my Livejournal! AND! She had a TV, but she couldn't get it to work right, so we figured out, finally, how to get to the part of the menu that lets you change it from antenna to cable input. (TVs are dumb.) So now she can watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report and Stargate and all kinds of other stuff! Then we went to eat at El Matador, where we used to eat all the time when I lived down there. And it was awesome as always. The whole time with coronafoxy3 was lots of fun, so I hope I'll manage to get down there more to see her and etumon. With gas being as expensive as it is, it's been hard to afford the trip, sadly.

So. After dinner I drove up to Ardmore to see Grandpa and work on *his* computer. His monitor kept turning pink, weirdest thing I'd ever seen. B said it sounds like some of the lasers in the monitor are going out. So anyway, I took him the monitor from my first computer EVAR, the one I bought in 2000 to take to college. And it fixed the pink thing, hopefully! He was also having trouble with an online game that my aunt bought him a subscription to, but installing the latest version of Java fixed that easily. I have to restrain myself from doing everything I want to do to his computer. It's so messed up and full of crap programs and slow and--there just isn't time.

I took S.H. 177 up from Ardmore, and passed through or close to a bunch of tiny towns having fireworks displays. So I didn't get to go to one display, but the long, drawn out one driving up the highway was pretty awesome.

Saturday, unfortunately, I woke up with a killer migraine, probably from driving in the night. The whole time I was driving I was wincing every time I saw headlights coming my way. They made my eyes hurt, and there was no *way* I could tell who had their brights on--it looked like they all did. So I took an Imitrex Saturday morning and laid down on the couch with an icepack over my eyes and Monty Python and the Holy Grail on low volume in the DVD player. I fell asleep before the Tale of Sir Lancelot and didn't wake up for 5 hours. Yeah. The meds I'm taking to prevent migraines make me fall asleep and *stay* asleep really easily. It's not usually a problem during the day, since I'm moving around and doing stuff, but if I lay down I'm out.

Fortunately my migraine was pretty much gone when I woke up. So, naturally, I spent Saturday evening starting a 96,000 word story for spn_j2_bigbang. I got through the first few parts, but my meds were knocking me out again, so I finally had to go to bed. I finished the story around 10 Sunday night. It's "Do I Seem Bulletproof to You" by Fleshflutter. This is the summary: "When he can't find any acting work, Jared takes a job as driver and bodyguard to Jensen, who is an extremely expensive prostitute with a bad habit of attracting crazy people." I was a little leery of it at first, because I've been burned by similar-sounding stories before. I was afraid it was going to be all jealous!Jared wanting to rescue Jensen from his horrible life. But it wasn't! The conflict wasn't even really about Jensen being a hooker, which I think is what I was most afraid of. Anyway, highly recommended.

Also! Sunday picara, her boyfriend, and I went to see Wall-E, which was A DOOR BELL. It didn't have much dialog, which made it a bit boring in places, but still very good. Like, the most utterly cute, sugary sweet movie ever. I absolutely loved the credits, too--different styles of artwork showing what happens after the movie, which were just as adorable as the rest of the movie, only compacted into a much shorter time.

So that was my weekend! How was yours?
