delurker, did you know you can buy a
desk for your car? It attaches to the steering wheel, see:
Look at the customer images, then read the reviews, which I found extremely helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars These worked great in the cockpit for our tanscontinental flights!, November 4, 2009

My copilot and I both used these during our "daily grind" transcontinental flights from San Diego to Minneapolis. We had to modify them a bit to fit snug against the instrument panels (when we bought them we didn't realize the planes we fly don't have steering wheels!), but in the end it did the job. With our laptops firmly in place we were able to focus our attention on what really mattered, participating in raids with our WoW clan. During our last flight we were so immersed in trying to take down Eranikus that we overshot Minneapolis by a full hour and a half before some annoying flight attendant interrupted us, babbling something about "FAA and F16 fighters."
We'll definitely use this product again at our next gig, whatever and whenever that happens to be...
Highly recommended!
I also love this guy's
brilliant idea: 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful:

(REAL NAME)
As other people have commented, there is a slight tendency to get distracted with driving while working or gaming on your laptop in the car. To fix this, i decided to jerry-rig my 1.2mp web cam to the hood ornament of my car and run the USB cable through the car's firewall into the dash. Now, I can watch the traffic ahead of me in the webcam window while I am playing need for speed (with the force feedback racing wheel of course.) I do have to push the seat all the way back making it somewhat difficult to reach the pedals, but at least now I can see the traffic through the web cam.
Some words of warning based on my experience to date:
try to think three steps ahead while watching the webcam as there is some noticeable lag and the freeze-frames are definitely an issue. make sure to do your virus scans while at the stop lights to save on processor speed while driving.
If you can, make your webcam window "always on top" as i had one instance where the NFS "rear view mirror" camera popped up over the web cam and really messed up my game.
Finally, I have a question for you. Does anyone know how I could hook up the car's gas and brake pedals to the computer so I can put my car on speed control, and therefore use the pedals for NFS? I tried using the pedals with the racing wheel, but there just isn't enough room down there for four petals (thankfully I drive an automatic, I couldn't imagine the clutter with 2 clutch pedals down there as well).
P.S. I see now that there is a video review tab. SWEET. I am going to add another web cam to the laptop to capture me playing NFS. hopefully I can do a split screen with the webcam on the hood so you get the full effect. I am going to try this right now. will post the vids in a few minutes.
It's a good thing I haven't spent my Christmas Amazon gift card yet!
