Lisa

I had a really awesome two weeks, because Lisa came all the way from the other side of the planet to visit me and have good times. I am too tired to post in great detail, but I want to at least acknowledge that it was amazing.

She arrived on Saturday evening. David, God bless him, came with me to the airport to pick her up. Her plane was delayed, but we managed to get on the last limousine bus back to Daechidong. We got up very early the next morning.

First, we went to Sorak-san National Park for Lunar New Year. I had two whole days off work, so we went on a journey far far away to climb mountains in the snow. It was cold, in the teens and twenties. We did one walk as soon as we arrived, to a place called Bee Fairy Rock.

We also took a cable car ride up to one of the mountaintops.

We spent our evening in an extremely cold hotel room and got up early the next day for more hiking. We were the first people at breakfast, at 6:32.

This picture does not do it justice, at all. It was breathtaking. I was really just so thrilled to be at the top (nearly) of a mountain.

We ate Korean food together and hiked one more time, and then went back home.

Most of the people on our trip were really cool, but we did have That Guy, who was rude and obnoxious and American and declared that he would get to the top of the mountain even if he would break his leg doing it, and idiotically took the hotel room key along when we all left, so our guide had to Fed-Ex it back to the hotel. Sheesh.

So after that, we got to chill in Korea, visiting my favorite palace...

And sing at a noraebang (song room).

I had to work for a few days then, so Lisa went on adventures herself, and had dinner with David once. Then, over the weekend, we went to the DMZ...

And Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon.

And then! I had to work some more. Good times. But following three days of work, we went to Tokyo!!

Which was confusing and expensive. If I go back to Japan I am bringing someone who speaks Japanese, for absolute certain.

But it was also very interesting and beautiful.

Yes, those are cherry blossoms. Yes, I realize the first picture of this entry has snow in it.

Yay for gazillions of people! At least in Tokyo they don't walk into you or walk down the street smoking cigarettes, like they do in Seoul...

Yay also for sushi, of which we consumed a great deal.

And then, alas, time to say goodbye! But we were together in extreme winter and definite spring so I felt like Lisa was around for two months instead of two weeks. Totally awesome.
