today on the train
on my way home
i'd forgotten my book
and so instead
stared at people's feet.
i sat across from a woman
in shiny bright red shoes
and next to a girl
who looked a lot like me
only she had
teal-painted toenails.
she seemed fascinated
in whatever her boyfriend was doing.
i hope
she is fascinated
by her teal toenails, too.
