YOU HAVE CREATED A MONSTER because I have a webcomic I absolutely adore and that I don't see linked around a whole lot.
The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage, by Sydney Padua This links to all the earlier stories; the latest ones are on the blog homepage, including Vampire Poets (guest starring the Bronte sisters) which is currently on hold and User Experience (guest starring an adorable George Eliot) which is currently updating. Here is the Origin comic; that's the one to start with.
I pimped this comic on my blog a little while ago but talk mainly about the historical context there. So here's some more squealing about it because I LOVE THIS COMIC. It's a steampunky alternate universe historical fiction comic in which Lovelace and Babbage team up and use Babbage's Difference Engine to FIGHT CRIME, and the historical footnotes are almost funnier than the comic itself. Monkeys! Music puns! Gratuitous use of charts! Here are some quotes

I just bought Freebird so I don't need a free copy, but I hear you still have a box of the first Raven's Children. ;)
Anyway, the webcomic I love beyond reason is Gunnerkrigg Court. It's science fantasy, if I had to slap a label on it, features girls-growing-into-women as the main characters, and has a sense of humour that appeals to me. I mean, if someone's response to having to carry a shadow across a looooong bridge to get it into the magical forest is, "Well, obviously I'll have to build a robot to do it," I can't help but fall in love.
The style's a bit rough in the first chapters, but it evolves beautifully. Gunnerkrigg Court is one of two webcomics I still read regularly.
Awww, thank you! <3 <3 <3 And why yes, I do have those, and would be happy to substitute one of those instead!
You know, Gunnerkrigg Court has been in my "links to check out someday" folder for awhile now. It looks really neat, and maybe this is my wake-up call to go ahead and read it!
I think you would probably like Quantum Vibe: http://www.quantumvibe.com/ Nicole Oresme is hired on as the assistant to an eccentric scientist, and she gets caught up in the interplanetary intrigue surrounding his secret project. It's got great artwork, a well-thought-out sci-fi universe, and interesting, witty characters. And it updates five days a week!
