Now most who know me know I have a massive guilty pleasure - I adore reading about Hollywood, celebs, and the like. To feed this addiction, I read several gossip blogs. Most are pretty cute, tongue-in-cheek, or downright bitchy. The ones I enjoy have boundries - they only attack those who deserve it, and NEVER celebrities children. However, Perez Hilton's site annoys me. Not only do the obnoxious ads freeze up the best computers, but he's a complete and utter arse to EVERYONE. He's an obnoxious famewhore, much like his vapid namesake.
So anywho, apparently he got into an argument with an associate of Will.I.Am's at some party, and basically goaded this guy into punching him in the face. (Currently, there is a line of people like me who would like to give this gentleman an award.) Of course, Perez is suing. He also gave a douchey statement yesterday, in which besides a bunch of other garbage I couldn't be arsed to read, he said:
“I will be donating any money collected from my lawsuit against Polo Molina, road
manager
for the Black Eyed Peas, to the Matthew Shepard Foundation.”
(I can't get this bastard to stop with the italics, so its in bold.) The Matthew Shepard Foundation was set up by the parents of Matthew Shepard, a gay student who was beaten to death in Wyoming in 1998. When they heard this from Perez, they issued the following statement:
The Matthew Shepard Foundation was surprised to learn this morning via media reports that blogger Perez Hilton has announced plans to
donate, to our organization, the proceeds of a lawsuit…
We had no advance notice or contact from Mr. Hilton or his representatives regarding this proposal, nor any
communication since he posted this plan to his website.
We do not know the details of the lawsuit, whether it has been filed, the nature of his claims or the likely outcome. But because the lawsuit presumably involves the physical attack prompted by Mr. Hilton’s admitted use of an anti-
gay slur, the Foundation will be unable to accept any funds obtained in such a manner.
…we also feel compelled to point out that use of epithets can often lead to physical violence, as it appears it may have in this case, and that the Matthew Shepard Foundation has worked for more than 10 years to bring to people’s attention the consequences of hateful or intolerant language.”
Seriously, I love it. I've always supported the foundation, and I even went to see his mother speak when I was in college. She's an amazing, powerful woman, and I would expect nothing less from her in a situation like this. This makes me happy even when I'm slightly depressed over my own personal issues right now. Yay!
