Once again I have neglected my journal and must therefore write a novel in order to catch up. Oh well. There isn't really much work for me this morning anyway.
...its funny how things happen when you say things like that. Just as I typed that I saw a raccoon scamper in front of the lobby windows. Then I see a few officers from animal control with their snares trying to catch the thing. They chased it over by the windows in the executives' office so I went in there to warn them. So, then they get the bright idea to trap it in our little glassed-in foyer between the two sets of doors going into our office. The lady who delivers our groceries was trapped in the lobby with us until they caught the thing. Pretty soon there was a crowd of about 10 employees and their coffee mugs just watching the poor animal run and slam into the windows. Raccoons have such poor vision and this thing was just pissed. Animal control couldn't get it into the cage so they just had to drag it out to the truck. We don't know which of the other offices around here called animal control. Erin spoke to the officers and they said the poor guy must have been trying to get into the building because it has a mother and babies inside. I don't think anyone from our office called animal control, so hopefully the other raccoons are not in our building. I just hope animal control keeps their promise and releases the animal far away instead of killing it. I haven't seen such animal control excitement since that wild turkey was found loose in that neighborhood in St. Paul where I used to babysit.
Anyway, back to the update. Friday I was a loser and I needed to be. I stayed home while Jen went out with Andy. I needed to just chill and have some time alone too. I didn't skimp on dinner. I ended up grilling more vegetables and some shrimp. That bag of frozen raw shrimp we bought turned out to be a great purchase because it lasted us each about 3 servings and it turns out pretty yummy on the grill. I watched a few movies and read from Wicked and went to bed around 12:30. Jen was home when I woke up at about 9. We got moving because I wanted to do some shopping before I had to go to Denver. I had my heart set on a new set of sheets and a quilt for my bed, but my local Bed Bath and Beyond did not sell most of the things I had found on their website that I liked and wanted. So I ended up going next door and spending about $80 on clothes at Old Navy. I got 2 pairs of pants and 3 shirts for that much, which was impressive to me. I am slowly starting to have the right amount of clothing for my purposes. I really lived in jeans and random Hamline t-shirts in college. Even though jeans are more than acceptable here at work, random t-shirts are just a little too casual. Ah well. Jen and I had lunch at Chili's and I don't know what prompted me, but I confessed about something I did my senior year that I never thought I would tell anyone in my family. I don't think it was anything bad, but I'm sure they would find a way to make it seem that way. I knew that Jen would think it was as funny as I do though so I finally confessed to her. I still don't know what prompted that, but oh well.
I dropped Jen off at home after lunch and gathered my laundry and overnight things so I could crash at mom's Saturday night. I headed to Aurora and did some laundry at mom's and read my book until it was time to go to Scarlett's and babysit. Mom wasn't there because she had Chuck's girls and was out doing things with them. I actually had a really good time with the boys when I watched them. I think there was just enough time between when I watched them that long weekend until now that I was able to goof off with them again. All three boys answered the door so that they could give me the birthday card they had for me. It was so cute because Jakey just yelled, "It's your birfday!!" with his hands in the air. They all had signed their names and they slipped a $25 Old Navy gift card inside (go figure, just a few hours after I had spent $80 there!) Anyway, we went to McDonald's, of course, and then to the park to run all the energy out of them. They did a really good job of playing and I got a chance to swing without one of them coming over and begging me to push them. When we were walking home from the park the sprinklers came on and we all ran for safety, but then I turn around and see Jake is just standing there balling and getting completely sprayed. I had to run back and get him and then convince the other boys not to run in the sprinklers on purpose. That was funny and just crazy. I got them dry and warm in their pj's after that and I just let them chill out and watch tv until it was time for the bedtime shuffle...as I like to call it.
Scarlett and Rob got home around 10, which gave me just enough time to meet Rob, Veronica and Danny at the movie theater. We saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which turned out to be pretty good, even though it should have maybe been called the Law and Order of Emily Rose, since the whole thing was about the trial of the priest after the girl died. I had my usual fun laughing at the jumpy parts and making sarcastic comments. Veronica and Danny were sitting between Rob and I and it frustrated Rob that he couldn't hear me making jokes. I told him he better choose a better seat next time then. It was close to 1am when we left the theater and we were out in the parking lot talking when they shut off all the lights and scared the shit out of Rob. He said, "No way, I'm not hanging around here for any creepy Emily Rose shit. Veronica, walk Sarah to her car and we'll pick you up." It was really funny. I drove back to mom's and read a chapter before I fell asleep on the couch where she had left me a sheet and some pillows. I didn't think anything of not having a blanket. Usually I sleep so hot that I toss the blankets anyway, but I forgot it's already the last half of September and mom had the sliding glass door wide open right behind me. I woke up at about 4 completely frozen and I went plundering in the dark, tripping over cats trying to find a big enough and warm enough blanket. I slept fine after that.
Sunday morning I took mom to Dumitiri's for breakfast. I missed that restaurant so much! Its owned my this Greek family and Mr. Dumitri used to feed all of us kids when we walked up from the high school after morning finals were over. They have an amazing breakfast menu and the best coffee. It felt good to start off the day spoiling mom for her birthday. We had some time after breakfast before Jen got to mom's so we went to Borders. As we walked in mom was lecturing me on how you need to make use of your local library and not buy books. I argued back that I appreciate so much having copies of the books I love and it just feels good to look at the shelves and shelves of books I have and know that I have read them all. I also told her that I use libraries for important things like research, a book I know I won't want to keep, for borrowing CD's that I can take home and burn, as well as for renting DVDs for free. Well, mom ended up stumbling upon a copy of one of her favorite books that she read during her pregnancy with me. I had to buy it for her and I convinced her to let me by promising to read the book myself. Its funny, I'll be the same age mom was when she read it if I read it before my next birthday. It's weird, mom was roughly my age when she had her two kids. Hmmm.
Soon after we got back to mom's Jen arrived and we all dressed to head downtown to the performing arts complex for the Symphony. We ended up having great seats behind the orchestra. I think we all prefer sitting back there because you can really watch them (especially the conductor)and the sound is virtually the same. I will have to buy some more tickets for that great price in the section we love to sit in. I didn't get a program, so I am sad to say that I can't remember all of the pieces they played. The first was a really great piece by Strauss Sr. which told a story that you could really hear. And then there was a Tchaikovsky violin concerto that this grammy winning violinist came out to perform with the CSO. Following the intermission was a combination of three waltzes. The first I remember was Dreamwaltzes by Stucky, a more modern composer, and they lead right into the Blue Danube Waltz (by Strauss Jr.). How cool to get to hear such a popular piece done so well in person. The last was a crazy waltz by Ravel. But isn't everything he did crazy? Another thought to ponder I guess. Following the symphony we took mom to Racine's for dinner. I was not too impressed with the menu, but mom liked what she ordered and, it being her birthday, that's all that mattered to me. We took her home following dinner and both Jen and I drove back to Boulder. I think we really did a great job for mom's birthday this year. Also, we realized it was the first birthday she has had in 6 years where both Jen and I were home from college.
Monday and Tuesday were uneventful. I have continued to read Wicked and I watched my latest delivery from Netflix, but other than that and work nothing has really been happening. Last night mom let us know that there was a Dancing With the Stars rematch between Mr. Peterman and the trashy girl from General Hospital. I was so excited to see that. I called and voted 4 times (you could vote up to 5 times on one phone line). Thursday I will find out if the right person wins this time. It sure seemed like the judges had their heads an straight this time. Oooh. And tonight is the season premier of Lost. Woah, do I sound like a tv junky. Oh well. Its fun to be excited about fun things.
Enough of a novel for now. I have a little bit of work to do and it sounds like plans are in the works for me to be hired officially as of October 4! I am so excited! Insurance! Pay raise! Job security! Yay!
