left and leaving

So, we leave for Denver in 8 days.  It's hard to believe.  Not even hard to believe, I'm incredulous.  So fast.

I finally secured us an apartment yesterday night so we won't be rolling into town without a place to hang my proverbial hat.  I can't even call it an apartment... we got a house.  A house all to ourselves.  Granted, we haven't seen it so this could turn out really bad but hey, this is a new start for us and we're beginning a new adventure.

Busy times.

We went to Pittsburgh by way of Columbus, OH to break up the trip and see Ben C. which was fun.  We are glad we went.  Then, of course, we saw Tom Waits in Columbus and it was pretty awesome.  He played a better selection when we saw him in Chicago 2 years ago (I thought, anyway) but the Ohio Theater only houses about 2,200 people so it felt really small.  We also had great seats on the main floor.  No complaints at all.  Then Alex and I hung out in a hotel drinking boxed wine and eating cookies while watching SNL.  It felt great.
The weekend after that my mother came up from home and the two of us hung out-- we went to see Wicket play at Shea's (which was great) and we did girly things like shop.  It was a nice visit.

Then, for another road trip, last Thursday Dan, Alex, Kathy and I headed to Philly.  The first night we were there, they got Philly cheesesteaks at Jim's and I got a veg. cheese "steak" at a pretty cool vegetarian place not too far away.  We stayed at Dan's aunt's house and then went to watch D4 play with the Circle Jerks.  It was great.  Patty wasn't puking his brains out this time and they played great.  I got kicked in the eye by a stage diver who couldn't clear the front row and I carried a shiner with me the rest of the trip.
After Philly, we headed up north to hang out with my parents, bottle the beer we made a few weeks ago and so that we could drive south to Utica so that I could run in the Boilermaker that Sunday.  It was a bad race, no need to go into detail (like getting stuck behind 12 minute milers for over half of the race) but I was in good company.  Dan, Kathy and Alex left me in Utica and I got to hang out with my Brody as he drove me back up north.  We were goofy and played Rock Band together.  I took a lot of pictures.

The next two days were spent saying goodbye to my family.  It's hard to do but I can't stay here forever.  My mom and I went shoe shopping and got manicures (how strange!) and ate a lot of ice cream.  I'm glad that I have become so close to her.  She dropped me off at the train station and it looked hard for her to say goodbye even though she was trying to be humorous.  She gave me two hugs.  Strange.

I talked to my Dad yesterday and he wants to come out Thursday night to help us pack the cars.  It's a 3.5 hour drive (one way) for him to do it.  I told him that I didn't think it would be worth it (not to mention I'll have to take off from work, which isn't a big deal)... but after talking to Mom today, she told me to just let him do it.  He doesn't want to say goodbye, even though it won't be for forever.

Sad times, I'm going to miss everyone.

No time to be posting on here, I have to get ready for a split and make car appointments.  There's still so much left to do, I can't believe it's almost time to go.  Working a split today, no fun.
