No time (no fun)!
I don't think I've ever been this busy in my entire life. Essentially have turned off the phone and stopped returning calls, that's alright, though, I'll pick it all up later.
The GREs went horribly and I'll be taking them again.
I finished up my TEFL certification this morning. It feels really good to finally have that finished. I look forward to never having to use that information again. (Hah, yeah, it makes as much sense as it sounds like it does.)
...now, grad school apps are due in between jan 2nd and feb 1st... then after all of that? Oh dear lord, I'll have time to read! time to run! time to bake! time to visit! heck yeah! ..but until then? It's nose to the grindstone, it sucks, but it's for a greater picture.
What did I do today, you ask?
-Took time to attempt in looking nice
-Post office
-Met with Dr. Hoeing and had a lovely time in his *new* senate office (good for him!)
-ESL, lunch by my lonesome, coffee
-Meeting with DK
-Finished TESL forever (phew!)
-Arranged and mailed out Kristen's extremely late birthday present
-Organized files
-Made dinner
-Went and saw Steve Levitt
-Gave Allr a haircut
I met with Dr. Hoeing this morning and he's going to write me a glowing LOR, he continues to say that I was his favorite student of all times and that my rec. gets priority over any other one that comes into his office. Dr. Michelson said she'd write me one as well as Prof. Wolck... so I'll have two famous names on there, in addition to Dr. Fertig, who knows me well, and DK. DK asked me to come to his office hours to talk (after I already had most of my questions answered by Dr. Hoeing) and we talked for a while. I don't really know what good a LOR from an English professor will do, but he knows me well and I think he'll write a nice letter talking of my attributes beyond the linguistics field.
Whew! I'm working on the SOP, which is giving me crap, but things are really starting to shape up... with the exception of the looming second chance at the GREs... man, another fucking $140 down the drain on a test which does not measure mine, or anyone else's capabilities as a linguist. Our skills aren't measured well by that system, but only MIT seems to recognize that.
I took the night off to go with Alex to a lecture given by Steven Levitt, the author of Freakonomics. I hadn't read the book, but the lecture was amazing! We've seen Micheal Moore and Ishmael Beoh this semester, and Professor Levitt was the most interesting and entertaining to listen to. Who would have thought?
Off to bed, breakfast at 0800 tomorrow, then formulating all day until I go to work. Busy busy busy!
grad school,
applications,
