So, in this time when everyone else is concerned over the economy, my obsession has become abortion. The whole issue of pro-life/pro-choice. Not roe v wade or the law of it really.. just the subject of choice on abortion.
When I entered college, I was pro-life. I hadn't thought twice about it, really. Then I started thinking, well, what right do I have to other people's choices? So I began to use the phrase I hear all the time. "I'm pro-life, personally, but on the issue as a whole, I'm pro-choice." And that was how I began to describe myself politically. "Personally conservative. Socially liberal."
And I was content with that til I realized that that didn't make any sense. Especially on the issue of abortion. So, first, for most people, abortion seems to be a religious issue. It's not for me. I'm not religious. I'm an atheist. Abortion is about life & death.
To put it bluntly, to me, it doesn't make any sense to say, "I think abortion is wrong but if others feel the need to abort, then it's up to them." Because you know what, I would never say, "I think killing is wrong but if others feel the need to kill, then it's up to them."
And I'm not a fan of wars and death in wars or the death penalty. In fact, I'm just not a fan of death, for anyone... In SG-Atlantis, I get an awful feeling when the Wraith ships blow up and everyone cheers...
But one of the reason abortion is more bothersome for me is because soldiers choose, these days anyway, to serve their country. And criminals.. well they're not exactly innocent, are they? But the unborn, they potentials. Yes, potential evil too.. but I read about a baby being born at 20 weeks! If that baby is a baby, then he's a baby inside. And a 13 year old girl can choose to kill that baby without discussing it with her parents, or the father of the baby. But she's not allowed to, well, do anything else without parental permission.
I just can't stop thinking about that 20 week old baby... Hence why I called it an obsession...
