a few things.
my nose is cold and i'm wearing a scarf in my house, trying to save the pennies for a future that looms ominously. they laid off four people at my job, indirect service part-timers, and i watched my boss's eyes fill up with tears when she told the staff at a meeting today. my boss who i've never seen sweat it, the quintessential prepared-for-everything youth worker, my mentor, with her hands shaking and red splotches creeping up her neck. my heart racing, even after hearing it twice already, i felt the knot in my throat get bigger, fighting my own tears. it wasn't about the end of the year bonuses that are now gone, but the weight of financial crisis, of struggling families, of my hope for staying long-term with an organization i really believe in.
