trench high

Humid days I can tolerate. Heated summer nights, void of some cooling trade wind, I cannot. Hey, I can complain, damn it! Right now I live in walking distance to the beach. Roughly three blocks --perhaps four if you add the dunes--, and typically it is cooler near the ocean than it is inland. Yesterday this was not the case. Actually, it was reported that twenty-five states within the US experienced highs in the 90’s Friday, and Virginia was among the affected. And, well, sleeping in the nude isn’t kosher when your boys wake you everyday at six AM.

There was a redeeming factor about last night however and that was the constant roar of thunder, frequent flash of cloud to ground lightning and the ultimately relaxing downpour of hard rain. Though there was no respite in the temperature, with its accompanied 50mph gusts of warm wind and painted sky of red, the storms themselves lulled me to sleep just fine.

It’s an amazing thing to watch a storm embrace the shore on one side, while the other end remains sun-kissed and virtually calm. Right now the town home we’re living in is a bit of an interim place until the new homes they are building are finished, which are scheduled to be at the end of the summer. I forgot to mention that, methinks. But anyway. These new developments will not only bring us closer to the ocean by two full streets, but we will also be able to see the ocean right out the front door, and truly experience the sound of those glorious fucking waves. I adore the way the sea fills my senses - when I can practically taste the salt on my lips. It’s hard to imagine not living on the coast.

REAL QUICK : Congrats to Brad and Angelina on the birth of their baby girl, Shiloh Nouvel. :)

Faster Kill Pussycat, the attention-grabbing title of Brittany Murphy’s video and song debut with the London-born mastermind of dance/house music: Paul Oakenfold. It’s a catchy song, with its chorus breaking into “You turn me on” along a constant, likable melodic electric beat. It must be the Britain base that reminds me of a younger Kylie Minogue, but a more sultry voice, smokier even, with a Goldfrapp twang and a hint of Poe’s moody effect. I’ve heard Murphy compared to Madonna, but Madonna is an entity alone, stark in contrast and the comparison is better off not made. Though I am not a solid fan of Madonna per se, I respect her as a musician and as a woman of power who commands masses of people across the entire globe. Can’t deny such a presence, but moving on.

Golden locks, dark eyes, lithe shiny material to slink against a slender form; Brittany Murphy makes skinny look better than Nicole Richey and Lindsay Lohan put together. It must be the always vibrant [sometimes insane] reflection of that mind within that stellar gaze of hers. Who knows? I mean, she was not the prettiest cast member of Sin City [it’s hard to compete with the filthy fucking gorgeous likes of Jessica Alba] but she too, like Madonna for namesake, commands a crowd - only her canvas is not the stage, but the silver screen.

A good percentage of men remember Tai just as well as Cher, when it came to mention of mid-90’s teenage hit and mother to the one-word phrase “Whatever”, that’s right, the charming yet annoying blockbuster hit: Clueless. What a wonder it is that Alicia’s career has wilted in the shade of age, while Murphy’s has blossomed with grace. Now, as it was no real secret that she could sing, with letting it show here and there in her films, she is embarking on the music industry, red-carpet heels ablaze.

Now for a bit of an after thought on Paul’s song, featuring her vocals, I’d say that it is a club-meant-tune and is not allowing her full talent to shine. One example, before I conclude, would be soul-filled humming bird herself, Alecia Moore, alias known as Pink. Alecia has an amazing voice and in my opinion few of her singles have truly let people be aware of that. But Pop sells and alas, it is… what it is. :)

Other than bitching about humidity, congratulating people I don’t know on the birth of a baby I’ve never seen, and reviewing an actresses’ performance in a music video, that is pretty much it. I mean there is a lot going on in the world, the earth quake in Indonesia being the one that really dominates this mind right now.

Merely two years since the catastrophic earth quake of 9.1 [on the Richter scale] which occurred beneath the Indian Ocean, and triggered that deadly tsunami, responsible for tens of thousands of lives, two-hundred-thousand plus to be exact, another natural disaster rears it’s head. And now, though not as great in magnitude [only 6.3 thank God] but lethal none the less, seems to be on the brink of ~so far~ claiming another four thousand. And give it a couple months, for that count will double, if not more. Ahh, my heart goes out to this region. My thoughts and prayers will be for the many people affected, when I lay my head down against my dry pillow, soft bed, and hide it beneath an expensive set of Egyptian cotton 300 count sheets. I feel fucking spoiled now and honestly I’ve just acquired nice things through life, when in reality I live day to day rather BROKE. But such is the life of being a parent.

I really am done talking now. Have a good one. Keep staying safe.

Virtually Yours,
Alexis
