Simply point out that these name collections get ignored by Downing Street etc, and now they have a system whereby an issue like this is raised on their government website and you enter your details on that. This collection of "signatures" is pointless. As pointless as putting your name on an email to get free money from Microsoft or whatever.
Nope. And it was grossly unprofessional for you to be sent this to (presumably) your work email by a colleague, doubly so as it is someone who is also your superior.
More broadly, we have to believe in the possibility of rehabilitation (or as the religious would put it, redemption), or life simply wouldn't be worth living. As you say, what these two did was hideous, but it speaks very poorly for us and our society if we refuse to believe that they might be able to change.
This is also my main argument against capital punishment.
You're right it is deeply unprofessional and yes, for all the crime was (and is) stomach-churningly horrific there is a reason we have laws rather than lynchmobs.
The only 'politicised' emails anyone sends round at my work are formal ones about what campaigns we do or don't support as an organisation. If someone sent round something like that then (*especially* if they were in a managerial position) serious words would be had.
