This summer has been fabulous so far! I'm madly in love with my job as an assistant teacher at the Newton Early Childhood Programs (through the Newton, MA public schools) where I teach special needs preschool students. We work with special ed teachers, speech therapists, behavior therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists and it's just AMAZING. The kids have their own IEP's (individualized education programs) so that each child can learn and grow as much as possible. We do the most wonderful activities there and I adore the kids and all the staff. It is such a high level of professionalism, it's really so far above and beyond all of the other programs I've been a part of. I know this is what I want to do when I graduate- hopefully they will hire me full-time for the following school year (after I graduate in June).
Catching up with my family and friends has also been a blast. I had an awesome get-together with Alison Singer, my old best buddy from first through fifth grades (until I moved to Needham) last week, and it was fun catching up with MCat and Rachel Rossman the other night.
My mom is doing pretty well even though the past year has been so rough on her with Grammy's illness and death and all of Pop-Pop's health issues and everything. She still loves her job and is happy most of the time, despite the stress, which is good. We went to my 6-year-old cousin Mariah's Irish Dancing recital last night, it was fun and she was too adorable for words. We visit Pop-Pop in New York fairly regularly and it's great to see him, even though he's sometimes more with it than other times. I am also now a Grey's Anatomy addict, and not practicing trombone for long periods of time on a regular basis- it's more like I practice when I feel like it, for a few minutes at a time. But I'm fine with that!
My Dad is working on his new book, which Little Brown & Co. signed onto based on his proposal for it. He is excited about it, although of course he will be pretty darn busy for the next year or two researching and writing it. He mentioned that he might want to hire a research assistant and asked if I had any friends who would be interested, so we'll see what comes of that.
In September I am going to SEATTLE to visit Elizabeth, and Paula is coming too! I can't wait, I miss both of them so much! I am psyched to room with Sarah J., Paris, and Erica this year too. Life is basically a huge party now, and I'm loving it.
