I'll start with CSI -
I'm actually tempted to write to Jorja Fox and ask she not sign on for next season, I mean my god how rushed was that, the overall idea - great, but execution was poor, and not from the guys behind the scenes, but from the actors, who usually shine. I guess I was expecting more, but it just didn't ring through for me at all.
Not only were her costars, apart from William Petersen, who though not exactly wooden like the others, still didn't shine for me. But the whole basis for Sara in peril is actually making me consider nominating them for jumping the shark now, before her fate is determined.
There was nothing new they did to make her abduction different from the past two season's CSI in peril storylines, save for we have to wait for next season.
They had planned far too much for this one episode, for me the episode should have stopped on Grissom walking into his office and finding the miniature, that way they could have spent the other 43 minutes building up the tension, and we would be waiting all summer for them not only to work out Sara is under a mustang somewhere, but also that the MCSK is a girl called Natalie who works for the Lab, as the viewers saw when she left the miniature. Leaving us once again like last year in front of the CSI's themselves.
I actually find myself hoping the rumours are true that JF walked off set, but not because she didn't want Sara to die, but because she actually was supposed to be found alive (Original sides on casting websites were that she survived, then were chanmged to her missing but still alive) and thought that Sara should be killed off, If I was JF I'd take a bow say thanks for the last seven years but I'm out the door.
I actually feel bad for JF, but mostly for the character, Sara Sidle, she had been one of the most interesting and dramatic characters to watch eveolve on a show for a long time, and CSI have really missed an oppurtunity by having her even in this situation to begin with, it wasn't needed, in fact it smacks of a night time soap opera ABC calls Grey's Anatomy.
JF, brings such a real quality to Sara, that the other CSI's seem almost cartoonish if they are left in their own, if she wants to do season 8 I say great, but if she doesn't do season 8 for whatever reason, I'll watch whatever she works on next, and more than likely leave CSI behind, hmmm means my Thursday's are open!
And that brings us on to the staff at SGH - Grey's Anatomy:
It's weird but looking back on season one I never thought that I would be looking towards the next fall season and not be planning on even DVR'ing this show, it's lost its way, had done at the begining of this season really, allowing the old GA to shine through from time to time.
My problem is just because its a Drama, doesn't mean that they have to have so much Drama, and so many extra characters, I don't care that George and Izzie slept together, I don't care that Alex says he wants Addison but really wants Rebecca (AVA/Jane Doe), I don't care that Burke has left Christina, I used to care about Meredith and Derek, but nope couldn't really give two hoots about them anymore. I'm so bored of all the drama from the relationships, and whereas last year I was dying for more details on Thatcher Grey, and hoping for scenes between him and Meredith, now I feel like if I ever saw another member of the Grey family I would die a happy GA Viewer, as it is we have Lexie Grey joining SGH as an intern, and me no longer wanting to watch.
It looks like GA is about to suffer what Desperate Housewives did last season, and what Lost did at the start of this season, less viewers due to the simple fact that TPTB (writers included) have lost the actual plot behind their own show and keep introducing new characters that we don't want or care to see.
Ergh!! Rant over, I need my coffee, back later with more finale analysis.
