After a week in paradise I have returned.
Vacation in Florida was great.
It started out a little rocky when Kerri forgot to pick me up to take me ot the airport, but I worked it all out and made it there in plenty of time for the flight. The first day was just my mom, my grandparents and me. We didn't do much. Just basically went through some photo albums and got everything ready for the rest of the family to arrive.
July 1st my aunts and counsins arrived. It was the first time in over 20 years that the six girls had been togehter. It was my mom and me, Aunt Trish and her daughter Patra, and Aunt Chris and her daughter Ashley. The first day Grandma had us going through endless amounts of pictures and family geneology. She also gave away a lot of jewelry. We all ended up with some sort of family heirloom. I was given a black onyx and ivory ring (square in shape with a harp and shamrock engraved in the onyx). I also got a two pearl ring that is just adorable. Mom took them home to get them sized so that I can wear them.
Over the course of the next five days we went to the pool, played bocce, scrabble and dominoes, went through more family stuff and divided up a lot of things from our grandparents house. In addition to the photos and jewelry, I ended up with a painting of a place in The Villages and my grandfathers doctorate of veterinary medicine. My cousins and I also went to a karoake place one night. It was definitely an interesting trip.
All in all it was a great time and I came home feeling pretty content. My grandparents are moving in three weeks to a new retirement area in Savannah, Georgia so it was extra sad to say goodbye to them because I knew it was not only that I was leaving them but also the place that they have called home for almost ten years (and the place that I called home for almost 4 months). I'll never be back there again (in all most likely instances).
For my homecoming though, I was able to meet up with Kerri, Alyson, Devan, Kristin and Nicole for lunch and then went to Summerfest with Kerri, Alyson and Stephanie to see the very talented Phil Vassar in concert. We had a good time and it was fun.
Now it's pretty much back to the grind. I have law review work to do, go back to work on Monday at the firm.
I'm starting to make my arrangements for Jo's wedding, to guarantee that I'll be there to celebrate with her.
But that's my life, and for right now (and for the first time in a long time, i'm happy with it).
