As to publishing intentions, I think the big question nowadays for us aspiring writers is the traditional/independent argument. It's one our local writers' group has been having quite a bit recently.
(I finally found a professional-oriented writers' group here in sunny Sligo, which currently has three published authors in regular attendance. By next month's session, there will be four. :-) )
One of the places we've found most interesting arguments is Kris Rusch's 'blog. She's a professional writer who has also been involved in the publishing industry, and she has a very business-focused view on the changes happening in publishing right now.
The other, more controversial thing I will say is that the thing that most got me writing was moving away from my gaming group. I haven't played a tabletop game since 2005. And it has helped my writing output no end.
For me, it seems, the two activities seem to draw from the same energy: doing more of one means doing less of the other.
