mod post--a year gone by

Hey all, your friendly neighborhood mod here.

neojess has just pointed out to me that as of the last couple weeks or so, some of us have been playing with each other for an entire year now! Wow. It's been a crazy year, but definitely a fun year of building a community, adding new players, weaving stories and I can't wait to see what this new year has in store.

Tonight is the State of the Union address so I thought I'd give sort of a "State of the Comm" address here ;-)

One of the things that I think has kept this community alive is our ability to communicate with each other, to make exceptions and to try and understand each other, not only through our characters but through getting to know one another as people. I know many of us have formed friendships that go beyond the game and it's really exciting to see that. I consider all of you friends and am glad that we're able to connect like this.

Another thing that I think has really helped this community is not being afraid to make improvements, not being afraid to say "Hey this part isn't working, let's fix it" or say "if we did this, we could make it better."

I think something we've been lacking lately is group interaction. We've tried the idea of ongoing group chats before and when there's a mod or a player actively monitoring the rooms it works well. I'm going to be making new chat rooms, the names of which I'll post--one for SVU, one for MCS, in "squadroom" form, as well as "the gallery" for the lawyers.

In addition, I'd like to remind you that while we've never had any 'rules' on posting--understandably, life gets in the way--and I also know that sometimes we rp till we fall asleep and then forget to write it up later--it's good to have character updates. I know I love reading about what's going on in the lives of other characters :)

Finally, I'm going to make another post after this one, a sort of "suggestion box" where you can leave comments--which will be screened. You can leave suggestions for improvement, compliments, ideas, general thoughts, etc.

Again, it really is a privilege to be your mod--apologies for lagginess on casework and such lately. It does mean a lot that you entrust myself and the other mods with the well-being of the community. I know it's nearly the end of January, but happy new year and I look forward to more fun times to come.

ooc, mod
